4. Final training

I slot in the last few books into my new bookcase as I bop my head slowly to the sad love song I am listening to through my old wired earphones, even though it is not relatable to me in any way. The beautiful white room looks fuller now, with various posters of pop artists and bookshelves all over the place. Just as I begin to read the back of the book that lies in my hand, I hear a knock on my door- interrupting my music. 

It's Alice. 

"Hey, Edward told me not to come and bother you, but I came anyway. I know you aren't going to be bothered by me. How are you settling in?" She asks. 

"hi... I really love this room. It's perfect." 

"You're welcome." 

"You did this?! You gave me this room? I thought it was Edward..." 

"I'm kinda the creative one around here, and I can see the future so I knew you would love this room the best." 

"well, fair enough I guess... thank you, why are you here?"

"Oh right, I saw that you had a little episode last night, is everything okay? I mean with your brother and stuff" 

"Well I mean I am already happier than I was as a human but I wish he never died, and to know that a vampire is the reason for all of my suffering... and now I am one, it's just a little strange you know?"

"Yes, I understand. I am sorry for bringing it up. Edward should be coming to check up on you soon... I think he has a bit of a soft spot for you, you know."

"well, lets be honest I think I have a soft spot for him too since he is the one who saved me" 

"Understandable" Alice says with a sweet smile, as she struts away with such grace that I'm sure I could never compare to. 

Time is a bit strange as a vampire, since we don't sleep. Time seems to be moving slower in small chunks but I feel like the time from yesterday to today was only a minute long. Just like the phrase 'time flies when you're having fun' except everything about the past two days has been the opposite of fun. I look at a massive round twelve hour clock that I have put up on the wall and it says that it is 5:18 and it is dark outside so I am going to guess that its in the morning. Weird, I don't feel in any way tired or exhausted. I can get used to this, not having to sleep.

Just as Alice had said, I hear soft footsteps walking up the stairs, and a hand smoothly pulling itself along the banister of the staircase. Edward walks up to the door and then before he can knock, "Come in, Edward." I say

He steps inside awkwardly and stands in the corner of the room for a few seconds before speaking. 

"How are you feeling?" 

"I'm fine now, thank you for yesterday... I don't know what happened."

"Don't worry about it, I'm here if you need me ok?"

I hope he isn't listening to my thoughts right now. Otherwise this could get awkward... but he is stunningly beautiful under this light.

he smirks a little then stops himself from laughing.

"Fuck."

"Haha, don't be ashamed darling, I'll take the compliment."

if i could, i would be blushing so hard right now. 

"Why are you in here Edward?"

"You have one aspect of training left. I need to teach you how to fight."

"great. how long is that going to take?"

"Not long, I am just going to teach you the basics, you will pick up your own fighting technique by yourself over the years."

"right, ok then- when do we start?" 

he smiles at me and just says "now." then he jumps out the window. 

I guess i should follow him.

do vampires not believe in doors?

whatever. We run off to a lightly wooded area, and he looks at me weirdly, like he might be trying to read my mind... does he do that often? I hope not...

"Why are you looking at me like that?" I ask him.

"no reason. you're kinda pretty too under this light you know." he says with a smirk. 

I roll my eyes, knowing he is mocking me and that it means absolutely nothing. 

"how do I fight then" 

"ok first you want to get your defensive stance right... here's mine." he hunches over himself and holds out his arms, ready to fight if he has to, and pulls his lips over his teeth and lets out a snarl, sounding almost like an angry dog. 

I try copy him, but I can't get my arms in the right place, they just look stupid- I don't know what to do with them.

"hahaha look at you" he says as he starts to walk toward me to give a helping hand.

He stands behind me and I give him my arms so that he can direct them in the right place. It feels like one of those stupid romantic comedy movies when one character is teacher the other how to play golf. 

Once I get my positioning right I try to do the snarl thing that he did. I surprised myself, it actually sounded a little scary. 

"Woah there that was good! who got on your nerves to make you sound like that first try?" he says

"Oh I don't know maybe just some tall pale man who wont leave me alone..." I say with a smirk.

The sun begins to set and I realise that we have been out here fake fighting for the whole day. 

"We should probably go inside, Alice and the others have a surprise for you."

I frown and begin to approach the house, but he gets there before me. what a show off. 

"It's not showing off, its using my talents" he laughs out

"Hey! you said you would stop listening to my thoughts" 

"Yeah but it's really tricky when they are so loud" He says while still laughing, "Honestly though I will stop joking around if you want me to" 

"sometimes it's funny but you know... my thoughts are for me-" I say

"Noted."

We walk inside and I am struck by banners and balloons and confetti, A pretty lifeless room had turned into the most colourful thing I have ever seen. 

"What's all this?" I ask. 

"It's your 'well done for finishing vampire school' celebration" Says Alice with a squeak of joy.  

"Well thank you, I guess I am officially a Cullen now then" I look at Edward.

"Yep, you actually finished your training way quicker than we thought you would, but I mean we were never 'trained' ourselves... we just had to learn alone and then we all came together I suppose, but Carlisle helped the majority of us." Said Emmett. 

 "So I got special treatment then haha" 

everyone laughs with me and I feel like this life won't be so bad.
