*Alarm clock sounds*
I opened my eyes then closed them quickly, I had left my curtains open last night and the light was blinding. I reached over and turned off the alarm then I sat stiffly up and yawned. I looked over to my bedside table and squinted at the calendar. It had been exactly one year since I had been rescued, a whole year with so many smiles but also so many looks! Mums pulling their children across to the other side of the road to little girls giving me flowers of thanks for what I had done. Some people see me as a hero, but others see me only as a monster, they still think I've killed so many but what they don't get is that they were trying to kill me.
I'm so tired but I know today I have to get up because I've agreed finally with the press that I would tell the world what happened in those long two years running, hiding and killing the zombies. So I got up and got dressed, it took a little while to decide what to wear, in the end I decided to wear: black skinny jeans, my silver locket necklace, a white tank top with my denim shirt over the top; sleeves rolled up and purple converse to finish. As I was brushing my hair, I was thinking about the day and what it had in store for me. Then my phone rang which made me jump (most sudden noises do). I put down my hairbrush and picked up the phone, it was Bella.
"Hi Bella" I mumbled as I answered the phone. I really was getting myself worked up about today. "S'up, look I'll be there in a few minutes ok?" She replied quickly, the sound of traffic buzzing in the background.
"Ok see you in a bit then."
"Cool, got to go now Zoe, bye!"
"Goodb-" I started but never finished as the sound of the dead line hummed in my ear.
She would be here in a few minutes and I hadn't even eaten breakfast. I sat down on my kitchen stool after pouring my Weetabix into a bowl. Bella would come in her bright red convertible sports car that she had bought with the gratitude money that she got for saving the human race. I donated half of my money to the new disease system in Stamford, which would sound an alarm if zombies were nearby. There was still some out there: wondering. The other half of the money I used to buy my dream house with a balcony and tunnels underground if I ever need to escape- Clever right! I could have gone to live with my mum but it didn't feel like it was home anymore. Bella was my family now and Stamford was my new home, and it was up to me to defend it. Before the attack I used to say that I travelled the world and back; as I had been born in Peterborough, travelled with my family literally everywhere and then ended up going to school in Stamford. After what I've been through I have done it twice. I ate half of my Weetabix, but then feeling slightly sick I scraped the rest into the bin. The dishwasher stunk like a sewer because I forgot to put it on last night. After putting it on and washing my hands I was about to sit down on my sofa when I heard a honk of a horn from outside. That must be Bella. I wondered over to the window and lifted the velvety red fabric up. Bella waved at me from outside and mouthed at me to hurry up.
"Come on Zo! You're going to be late!" Bella shouted from outside, sounding frustrated, so I grabbed my house keys, slammed the door but fumbled with the lock. The sun shone down on me as I walked to the car where Bella was waiting for me. She was like a second mother to me she took care of me, listened to me and supported me. I also took care of, listened to her and valued her opinions. This is the reason we are both still alive.
"Hey, Bella" I shouted as I walked up the path towards her car. "Hi, Elizabeth." She replied reaching over to open the car door. I climbed in and she drove off. I looked over at Bella: her blond hair blew back in the wind, her blue eyes sparkled in the sunshine and her tanned skin almost glowed in the light. She was really pretty; unlike me I had Auburn brown hair, deep green eyes and freckles all over my pale yet rosy-cheeked face. "You're looking pretty today" Her smile wrinkles showed. "Have you done something with your hair?" Bella asked as if she'd just read my mind.
