We were falling. Off what seemed like a tall building. It was my sister Millie and I, holding on tight to each other, eyes open as if it would be the last time. We fell on the dusty ground just as the tall building exploded. The metal and wood that crashed onto us was rain. I reached my hand towards my young sisters to comfort her, to show her I wasn't afraid, to tell her we were going to a better place but just as our finger tips brushed together a wooden board split us apart. Then I heard her long ear-piercing cry. I tried to scream her name but I could not speak- I needed to cry and shout but no tears or words came: I was petrified. Pushing off a box from my leg I limped over to her but when I saw what happened I couldn't shut my eyes or turn away I was glued to the spot, staring at her petite body lying lifeless on the leaked red grass. She was dissolving; literally melting into the ground. I dropped to the floor, sobbing watching her go. Then I heard a noise above my head I looked up and I knew what was about to happen. "I'm sorry Millie," I whispered to her. "I'm so, so sorry."
I sprung up right in bed sweating, tears pouring down my face; gasping for air like I'd just come up from the pool after being dunked. It was just a nightmare. Rubbing my eyes and wiping my brow, I reached for a tissue to wipe my face. I nocked my iPad in the process and read the time. Oh, it's 4:00 am; I still have another five hours to sleep. I thought to myself as I lay back down in bed. I closed my eyes; ready to get back to rest however, something didn't feel right. I plodded over to my window and pulled open the curtains; a bright light blinded me, outside it looked about 8:00 in the morning. How odd? When my eyes readjusted to the light I could see about 30 adults coming down the hill of the boarding house. I looked back over to the main group who were trying to get into the boarding house, who are they? I thought. Then I suddenly asked myself a crazy question. Were they Zombies? And was this a zombie apocalypse?
I rested my hand on the window and a shot of cold ran through my spine making me shiver like insects crawling over my back. Then one of them looked up at me, blood covering his mouth dripping from his chin. Definitely Zombies! A trail of blood ran over the grass, I squinted into the distance and saw dead children's body all over the rain-splattered ground. Then one of them started to move. It was a girl; she looked about 14 and she was trying to get away; crawling on the grass. I banged on the window, trying to get her attention but she wasn't focused on me. The man, (If you could call him a man) had seen her and was galloping over to her. I blinked; and then she was gone. Well, most of her was gone...
Slowly I stepped away from the disturbing scene outside, letting the curtains fall back into their place covering the window and all the horrors through it. I knew what I now had to do. I looked around at my sleeping dorm mates and I sighed. I wish I could convince myself that this was just another section of my dream; but I knew it wasn't. "Liv, wake up." I whispered softly into her ear. She stirred for a minute but then started to snore. "Wake up now Olivia!" "I'm up for goodness sake Zoe." She complained. "Why the donkeys are you waking me up this time of the morning?" she continued, rubbing her eyes. I could have told her it all then, what had happened to that poor girl but I didn't want to shock her too much and anyway, I was close to tears. "Look outside" was all that I could squeeze out of my dried up throat, pointing over at my window.
Waking up the heavy sleeping Maddy would be hardest. I shook her vigorously until she told me to go back to sleep and turned back over. So I got an old cup of murky water, pulled off her covers and poured it all over her. "Zoe! I hate you!" She spluttered, water ran down her face and back, soaking her clothes. "What can I say bae, it was for a good cause" I giggled, forgetting for a moment what was happening outside. "Err, guys... You might want to come over to look at this!" Olivia said nervously from the window.
