CHAPTER 1
Ruthie clung onto her mother tighter, as they left Poland. Joesph, with tears in his eyes, blinked them away. He told himself he would do whatever he had to to protect his family- Or, at least his little sister. "It will be ok," Joesph's mother whispered softly. All Joesf could think about was his father, and if he would ever see him again. Joesph could see the pain in his mother's face, as they grabbed their pretty small amount of things, which they never fully unpacked in fear they would have to leave quickly.
He wondered if he would ever be free again, and he quietly whispered, "All will be well, one day, even if I'm dead"
He thought back to his time in Poland and thought about this girl he met. She was the kindest, prettiest, and most perfect girl he had ever met. To say Joesf admired her was an understatement. Sarah- Sarah was her name. She had long auburn hair, brown eyes, and the prettiest smile you would ever see. But, despite all her beauty, the most amazing thing about her was her heart.
She was a Christian girl and believed everyone deserved to live happily and free. Every day after school Joesf and Sarah would talk and hang out. Joesph was extremely embarrassed by the fact he was in 1st grade since he didn't know French, but Sarah promised to teach him over the summer. She knew German, and spoke fluently, which Josef slightly envied. He wished he knew 2 languages.
Joseph knows he will never see Sarah again. He will never get the chance to tell Sarah how grateful he was for her. How grateful he is for her.
The day before his mother told Joesph they had to leave, Sarah and joesf had been sitting and laughing on a park bench outside. As joesph started into Sarahs eyes, he realized something-
He likes Sarah, sure. But he also loves Sarah. He knows it would never ever work out though. Just because Sarah has a kind heart does not mean other people do.
THE DAY BEFORE JOESPH LEFT
I walked into school, with a dull look on my face, as usual. By eyes sinking, and dark circles under my eyes. Only two things can make me happy. Sarah, and my family. My eyes dart around the hallways, wondering if I can spot Sarah. It's pretty embarrassing I'm a first-grader while Sarah goes and learns secondary school things. Even though I'm older than she is. Only by a couple of months, but still.
"Ah!" I yell sarcastically, as Sarah yells loudly, "BOO!"
"Haha, you scared me, sooo bad," I say, emphasizing on the so.
"We are gonna hang out after school, right?" She asks, seeming kinda fidgety
"Oh...Yeah of course. When do we not?" I say, with a soft laugh, trying to lighten the mood.
"Yes-, I know, I guess just...I guess since your leaving tomorrow- Will I ever see you again?"
Sarah asks me, reaching out for my hand.
"I...I dont know Sarah..." I answer, taking her hand.
"You know, lets be adventurous today. You wont get in trouble since this is your last time here...Lets skip school today Joesph. Lets run through the forests, and walk along the streets, so you can see the city once more before you must leave. Lets be 15" She says, sneakily leading us out of the school. She knows all the secret ways out of our school. Oh my, I'm really going to miss her.
I know it seems stupid, but she has been the coolest person ive ever met, and its going to hurt to leave her behind. I know she will survive this war, hopefully, but i might not. If i dont, ill never get to see her beautiful face again.
