CHAPTER 2

PRESENT DAY

Joesph's skinny and weak body shakes in the cold, and he holds onto the extremely thin and tiny blanket that had been left behind by someone else, and he thinks about his family, and Sarah. Joesph thinks back to before they left, when him and Sarah had skipped school together, and they had played in the forest together. He remembers the words he had whispered to Sarah.

"I love you" and he remembers her warm embrace, and how she always made him feel at home, even though he wasnt.

He would give anything to see her face again, and he prayed every night to god that he could see sarah again, just once. Just to tell her he loved her. Just to hug her once more. To feel her soft hair in his fingers once more. But, he knew in his heart, he wouldn't make it out of there unless someone rescued him. He thought he never would get out.

Until, someone got him out.

In the middle of the night, joesph felt a hand go over his mouth. He didnt try to fight it. He thought his time had came to finally die, but, when he woke up, he was no longer in the concentration camp. He heard a gasp come from a female, and he sat up in a haze. His blurred vision could barely make out the shape of the female coming towards him. He felt arms wrap around his body, and a voice. Sarah. "Shhh...Your ok...Im here"

JOESPH POV:

Is it really her? Is it just a dream? Am I crazy? "S-Sarah?..." I ask, wearyly, wrapping my arms around the girl's body. "Yes Joesph, Yes..." she responds, and I blink multiple times, trying to clear my eyesight. "I never thought I would see you again. My father- He is high up in the Russian army, Surprise! I know russian as well. The Russian army went to your concentration to get as many jews out of there as possible. He got you out. He had told my mother and me he was going on a mission to save Jews from a concentration camp, I prayed you would be there. And here you are." She adds, her hands on my bony cheeks.

"T-Thank you, Sarah...I missed you" I say as I finally get a clear view of her face.

"I missed you too Joesph- You don't even know how much I missed you"

I hold her tighter, and another woman walks through the door. "Oh, you poor boy!" I hear her say, her voice lined with deep sympathy. "You poor thing," She says, handing me a bowl of soup.

"You must be terrified" Sarah adds, and plants a soft kiss on my forehead.

"I'm alright-" I begin "You don't have to act so tough my love"

"Sarah?"

"Yes?"

"Will I ever see my family again?"

She opens her mouth to speak but closes it. "I-...I don't know..."

I nod and look off to the side.

"Eat..." She says, handing me a piece of bread.

I take the bread and eat it, to keep her happy.
