A few days later, on February 21, 2009, Andrew woke up bright and early (despite the fact that he hated getting up early more than he hated doing homework), and met up with his sister for breakfast.
It didn't long, however, for Hudson and Edmund to find them. "Hey." Hudson said, quietly. "I know you're still sour about the whole 'not having super powers' thing, so if you want to talk about it later with one of us, you can." "Thanks, but that won't be happening." Andrew replied.
"Why?" Edmund asked. "Because." Andrew responded. "Why would I feel bad about not having something that everyone else around me does, and it happens to be something I didn't even realize existed? Why would I feel bad about not having something that I don't understand?" "I guess you're right." Hudson replied. "But still. If there's something you want to talk to about, Edmund and I are willing to listen. Alright?" "Yeah, sure." Andrew responded. "Fine."
Yes, Hudson was right. He was sour about something, but not having superpowers wasn't it. In fact, Andrew didn't know what it was either. He was just sour for an unknown reason. But that's not too different from my every day life.
It didn't take long for the bell to ring and signal the start of their classes. The first class that Andrew and Jacklin had to find was archery. Something that Andrew excelled in. He had managed to teach himself how to use a bow and arrow and even how to hunt with it. Not to mention his aim was usually unbeatable. He would be extremely surprised if one of his classmates was better than him at archery.
Fortunately for him, other than him and Jacklin, nobody in his class knew how to even hold a bow and arrow, which Andrew found a little annoying and a little funny at the same time.
Why was it annoying? Because none of his classmates understood what the teacher was teaching them. He found that out after watching Edmund hold the bow upside-down for five minutes and Hudson put the arrow in the bow wrong five hundred times.
"Edmund, you're holding the bow upside-down." Andrew commented. "Are you the teacher?" Edmund asked back. "No, but I know how to shoot an arrow thanks to the fact that I taught myself how to use it when I was little." He answered in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Okay than." Edmund started. "Prove it. Wow me." Sighing, Andrew took the bow in his left hand, holding it the correct way, put the arrow in the correct way, and aimed for the center of the target, smirking a little at Jacklin's snort of amusement at Hudson's confused face.
Slowly, he pulled the arrow backwards, adjusted his stance, took a deep breath, and let go of the arrow. As expected, it hit the center of the target. Andrew smirked at Edmund and Hudson's amazed faces. "Just because I have no powers doesn't mean I'm not completely useless." He pointed out. "I know what I'm talking about when it comes to archery."
"Impressive." Edmund commented. "Like I said, I taught myself how use it when I little." Andrew replied as if it was no big deal. "Jacklin is just as good." As if to prove a point, Jacklin copied what Andrew did and her arrow went right to where she was aiming at.
"I think we already have some students in the advanced archery class." The teacher commented, causing Andrew to choke on nothing and Jacklin to whip around in surprise. "There's an advanced archery class?" Jacklin managed to get out, seeing as how her brother wasn't able to speak as he was too busy trying not to choke on nothing.
"You two start tomorrow." The teacher answered, nodding her head. Andrew and Jacklin exchanged a glance in surprise. Since when did archery get more complicated then just shooting and aiming good? Unless it was a competition team and not a class, Andrew couldn't think of anything he didn't know about archery.
But then again, he wasn't a genius. Right?
