Moyo's pov

School has been good in recent weeks because we had to prepare for the competition, so teachers had to work extra hours to try and cover everything. And I mean everything so the ss1 students could at least have a fighting chance in the competition.

There were cash prize for students that emerged in the top three students in all categories, but I'm not sure any ss1 student had their eyes set on any prize because we were way above our heads here.

But just like Ebun said before we all got on the bus "Let's do our best."

"Omo me I want to win the money oh, even if I come third place. Two hundred and fifty thousand isn't small!" ife said, we the ss1 students were all seated close together on the bus because we didn't want the seniors baiting us so they could walk all over us.

The top students from each class were selected fo this competition, so although we were just participating don't count us out yet because we didn't come here to play.

We had math wizards like Ebun, Feyi, Zayn. Chemist like Ife, kayinsola and the twins Taiwo and Kehinde. And physics guru like myself, Timmy, Black and Toke.

Glad to see Toke competing, if shy was a person it would be obviously be Toke. She didn't really have any presence in class always opting to sleep than socialise but Ife made it her duty to always check up on her.

It's nice how ife cares so much about her subjects. Ebun said she might be suffering from trauma! That boy and he's ideas don't get me started.

I could see Ebun from here, he was just sleeping peaceful when Emperor walked over to wake him, he directed his attention to the back where Kemi was staring at him.

Kemi's pov

Ebun didn't come see me during the weekend because we were preparing for the competition. No offense but the competition is mid level if not basic in my opinion.

I've always been acing them since I started participating in ss1 so Yes! I'm confident in my ability to come out on top this year like always.

"I want you to call Ebun for me!" I said to Emperor. "This your new found love interest is...."

"I don't care what you think! Just do as you're told!" I interrupted. "Alright boss." he smiles walking over to meet Ebun who was asleep, maybe its just me but he has been avoiding me lately or maybe it's just stress.

"Glad you could join us." Vanessa said immediately he arrived, she and Susan were resting pretty in the arms of their beloved.

"Is it me or he's better looking than before!" Susan added. Honestly they weren't lying, in the space of just weeks facial hair are becoming visible on his face. My boy is going through puberty.

"it's been a while since we last saw each other. " he gave of a warm smile.

"I thought we agreed not to see until after the competition." he said seating down.

"why is your assistant acting more jumpy lately!?" he stares at Samuel, he was staring at us. "I told him you were going to do better than him in this competition." I replied.

"Why did you say that! So it's your fault!" he replied pushing me away. "You have to relax. Besides I know you want to do well in this competition." I replied, even though Ebun didn't show it he is really driven individual choosing to hide it under this aloof persona.

"Besides. I've seen your result sheets. Every single one of them." I smiled. "You're lying!" he replied.

"Try me!" I replied full of confidence. "Jss 1" he replied.

"89% for two terms then a 90. " I replied. "Like I said I checked it all." I added reacting to his shocked expression.

"Ebun! Just promise me you'll do better than Samuel." I pulled him in for a kiss. Kissing on the school bus wasn't unusual besides these students know better.

"You know how I hate to lose. So please do your best." I wanted to kiss him but he walked away.

"I hate you!" I moaned when he broke off the kiss walking back to his seat, maybe it's he's smarts or good looks but something about him that had my in rumbling.

Despite being my play thing, I'm surprised at how much unchanged he is always opting to stay with his people than seat comfortably amongst his seniors.

I pulled out my phone to listen to music while ignoring the gaze Samuel throw my way.

Moyo's pov

The competition really rocked our boat with everyone commenting on how difficult it was but only one ss1 student distinguished himself coming in third place earning him a cash prize of two hundred and fifty thousand and other prizes.

Ebunoluwa is really something in all honesty! How does someone go from arriving late for tutorials to third best. He just showed everybody there's more to school than always being on time and following rules.

Another feather in his cap,

When I heard the news, I screamed so hard mom thought something had happened to me that night. As for myself, I came in fifth place in physics.

I called to congratulate him and joke a bit about the competition and school, we also talked about exams and the upcoming prefect nominations. He said Kemi is rooting for me to become head girl which was shocking since she didn't like me.

Tolani's pov

When mom broke the news about the call she received from the principal, I was on my way home from work.

I brushed off Bukunmi who came to welcome me at the door heading straight to Ebun's room because how can a young man be walking around with two hundred and fifty thousand naira.

He wasn't there so I change direction to the kitchen,

"Where is it?" I grabbed him ransacking his pocket, he was still dressed in his uniform. "I don't know what you are looking for." he replied.

"The cheque!" I said. "Oh! Dropped it in mom's room. Are you hungry?" he stared at me, he was preparing noodles. He always preparea the best noodles so yes! I'm very much interested.

When mom arrived later that night, he voice echoed through the entire house singing and shaking her body all over the place. I'm guessing she was more excited because Ebun decided to get her an air conditioning unit to cope with the constant heat.

After dinner I went to meet him, he was outside speaking to someone on the phone,

"Hey!" I walked over to meet him immediately he dropped the call. "Sorry I didn't get to thank you." I sat down beside him hugging him.

"For what!" he replied. "For making mom happy, things have not been easy since dad died but you somehow find ways to make her smile and live conveniently." I hugged him tighter.

"You cook! You clean! Even though we don't show our appreciation. Thank you!" we both smiled.

"It's fine big sis! Just glad I could help." he replied before his phone rang. "Can I take this!" he stares at the caller ID, it was Moyo. I just waved my hand in approval. We walked away to discuss with her while I went to get ready for bed, took a hot shower before crawling into bed.
