Despite wind wizzing around and sand crunching beneath boots with the occasional cough or whistle of a soldier, it was pretty quiet as Lennox's squad of soldiers walked through the desert landscape in the direction of Mahfouz's village.

"This place is a lot further than I thought it was." Patrick vents before tripping over a rock underneath the sand.

Epps looks over to him as he kicks a mound of sand over, sending dust flying. "You think they'd put a village anywhere near a military base? Or a military base anywhere near a village?"

"I know a few that are closer together than this. Like not even that far."

"Well we're in a desert, man. Ain't nothing out here but sand really." One of the soldiers up front yell back.

"Just keep walking and let's try not to dry our throats out too fast." Lennox states weakly. His throat was dry enough from yelling back at the base. He knew everyone was tired and exhausted but they needed to keep moving.

Mahfouz looks up to the military officer "Do you miss your plane?"

Lennox looks down to the boy "Not much. Kind of..... a lot actually. My first plane, not even test flown and already destroyed."

"You don't know that." The boy tilts his head, trying to comfort his older friend.

"Chances are high." Lennox sighs. "That robot thing- whatever it was was huge and didn't seem friendly in the slightest. Let's be glad there aren't anymore of them walking around out here."

"How do you know that?" Fig asks, overhearing the conversation.

"Well I'm sure that if there was another base attack, we'd have heard about it." Lennox coughs, his throat dry from the hot and dusty atmosphere of the desert.

The group continues trekking on, occasionally stopping every several miles or so. They climbed over rocks, sand dunes, cliffs, and all sorts of landscapes as they walked. It seemed like forever and their path didn't seem to end.

"Can we take a break? I can't feel my ankles!" Patrick whines.

Lennox looks around "You see that abandoned tank up there?"

"Yeah? So?"

"Make it to that and we'll take a break." Lennox turns back to the trail.

Patrick wanted to argue or say some smart comment but he knew it would do nothing so he walked with the guys to the tank. Once they got there, he sets himself down on the side of it, leaning back against the body of the tank. A long groan escapes his mouth. A few others sound as they relax on the hot metal vehicle. It had no doubt been there a long time. Another soldier, going by the name of Burke, asks "Hey any of you guys wonder what the news'll say? How our families will react?"

The other soldiers booed his remark, saying things like "Dude, come on." And "Why would you say that?"

"I don't even want to think about how this'll effect them." Lennox says.

"It'll definitely put a lot of stress on your little girl." Epps looks over to him.

Lennox shakes his head "She won't even understand it until she's older."
