This chapter is dedicated to DracoMalfoySimp64 because without their encouragement, this super short chapter would not be published until I stop procrastinating. (and considering I can procrastinate for a looong time you guys are very lucky) You have them to thank for this! 😁
Today was the day of the UA sports festival. Students bustled around preparing, some were nervous, and others were confident to the point where they seemed cocky.
Killua, who was lost in thought, seemed to be indifferent to the whole thing as he got ready. He planned on finally telling their principal some of what their situation was. Not everything but enough that he would maybe be able to help them a little. Still, he worried that it wasn't a good idea. Were they really that desperate for help?
Gon on the other hand was ecstatic. He loved challenges and with the possibility of a real challenge, something he hadn't got since coming here, he couldn't help but feel happy. His good mood was infectious and pretty soon even the most nervous students couldn't help but smile.
Some of the students in class 1-a, when seeing Killua's unaffected, almost bored appearance and Gon's constant energy and beaming smile, wondered how the two of them had ever become friends. They were polar opposites. They were living proof of the saying that opposites attract.
Soon the moment they had been waiting for came. Class 1-a along with the other classes walked onto the stadium. There were thousands of people sitting in the audience, many of them were heroes. The earlier excitement was gone now, it had been replaced with anxiety as each student took in the amount of people that had come to see them win or lose in pathetically.
Killua and Gon, who were used to the feeling of thousands of people watching them as they fought hard to win from their time at Heaven's Arena, were unaffected.
Gon frowned when he noticed the determination and enthusiasm that had been so clear fade away at the sight of the audience. If they were too busy being anxious than this sports festival wouldn't be much of a challenge at all. "Come on everyone! Let's get out there and show them what we're capable of!" With those cheesy words the students' determination was rekindled.
The students gathered in front of a stage in the stadium. Midnight walked onto the stage in what was the most inappropriate costume for heroes that Killua had seen so far. Usually, he'd say that there was no point in wearing such a thing but considering her quirk he supposed it made sense. This didn't stop people like Mineta from drooling at the sight of her.
"Welcome to the UA Sports Festival!" Midnight shouted above the voices that quickly went silent once she started speaking. "It is now time to hear the student's pledge! Representing the students is Katsuki Bakugo from Class 1-A!"
Bakugo stood with an almost indifferent expression as students turned to look at him in surprise. Bakugo, the one who acted feral at times and kept making Class 1-A look horrible in front of the other classes, was representing them?! This was not going to go well.
Bakugo walked up onto the stage and faced the crowd of students gathered in front of him. "I pledge that I'll be number one," with that he walked off the stage ignoring the indignant and outraged cries from the students.
"Hey stop messing around!"
"We work just as hard as the students in the hero course! We won't just let you dismiss us like that!"
"You sludge Bastard!"
Iida ran up to Bakugo angrily, "Why are you saying something so disgraceful?!" Bakugo turned to face him, "At least become a nice bouncy step for me to jump off of."
Gon looked confused. He didn't see what the big deal was, Bakugo was going to try his hardest to win. Saying it shouldn't be news to everyone. Killua couldn't help but laugh at Bakugo's words. He was the only one who did. The sound of laughter sounded so strange among the angry cries that the students couldn't help but be silent and look at him. Was he crazy?
"What's so funny, Albino Freak!?" Bakugo shouted irritated that he wasn't being taken seriously.
Killua got himself under control and explained, "It's just that everyone is so mad about your words but isn't that what we all are thinking to a certain degree? We all want to win. They're mad that you said that you're going to take their skills and quirks seriously. They're expecting words of encouragement but what villain is going to do encourage them? It's best to learn now that there won't always be polite conversations between enemies."
Despite the fact that he was nowhere near the audience and wouldn't be easily heard from the audience, the audience could hear him crystal clear. He was able to project his voice without yelling. The fact that the audience had stopped talking when the students went silent helped too.
"He's not a villain though," a student pointed out. Killua shrugged, "But we all will be competing against each other. What did you expect him to say? That you'll all get participation medals? That he hopes you all win in some way? Because no matter who was going to be sent up there to represent us, they'd be lying if they said that."
The students thought about that. "I guess you're right. I'd rather him take us seriously than say that all of our hard work has amounted to nothing." Another student jokingly said, "Maybe you should've been up there instead of Bakugo." Killua wrinkled his nose, "Ew, no thank you. I'd be just as bad as him if not worse. I'm pretty sure it's because I used to be the same way and sometimes still am that I'm not mad."
(I don't think Bakugo and Killua are too similar. But I do think that Bakugo's way of thinking and Killua's way of thinking before he met Gon or sort of similar in the way that both thought of themselves as the best since that's what they were told since they were young. Or they thought that they would one day be the best and it was only a matter of time. I also think that somewhere deep-down Bakugo carried a sense of guilt for some of the things that he did/said to people he considered weaker than him or if not, he got felt this way later similar to the way I think Killua regrets killing people even though it's not his fault. The difference is that while Bakugo's pride led him to bully people, Killua's just made him think that weak people were a waste of his time whether it was getting to know them or picking on them.)
Midnight snapped her whip, gaining the attention of both the audience and the students, "I will now explain the rules for the first challenge." Killua only half listened to her words as he started to think.
What was he thinking about? Well, a lot of things. He was thinking about his sister and his friends, he was thinking about how they were going to get home, and he was thinking about who could he really trust here? He was an ex-assassin among a world where people only saw things in black or white. If anyone found out about him, they'd immediately label him as a villain. He couldn't blame them. If he had grown up here, he'd think he was a villain too, but he hadn't grown up here, so he knew better. He knew he had done bad things, but he was trying to change and if he was thrown in prison in some world he was, admittedly, still learning about he wasn't sure if he'd be able to resist turning back to his old ways. He'd never admit it, but it hurt being constantly judged and being thrown into jail by people he was starting to almost tolerate might just push him over the edge.
Gon shook him out of his thoughts. "Come on the obstacle course is starting!"
Killua followed him and the other students to the front of the gates. Why was he doing this again?
( ̄▽ ̄)" Don't be mad. I'm too lazy to continue this chapter but I want to update for you guys. You'll have to wait for the next chapter. :D
