It was cold outside. The air had that dampness to it that cut through clothes to the skin. But I was stone. The anticipation kept me warm. Watching you. Through your windows, I saw you travelling about your home with no inclination, absolutely no idea of what was about to happen. Even just imagining your face when you first saw me could have started a fire in me. You filled me with a frenzy, overflowing and swollen with a manic urge to rip you apart, but I wouldn't show it, behind this mask I was as still as stone. Breathing against the lacquered mask, in and out, bellowing out clouds in the sharp night air. I'm surprised you didn't see, if you had just looked out of your window you would have seen a man on fire, desperate, and you were melting ice.
I watched you, room to room you went, settling in for a night I don't think you could have ever of expected. I watched you and drank you in. You nourished me. Every glimpse of you I caught and bottled. I wanted to savour that calm before the storm, your unknowing made me throb. I just had to wait for you, you had all the power you just didn't know it. I waited until you fell asleep, for you to decide to climb into your bed, get under the sheets and bury yourself into comfort. Ironic really isn't it?
I stood at your door. I couldn't wait any longer. Breathing on the glass, beyond this threshold you lied unknowingly calm, relaxed and slowly falling to sleep. Yes, you locked the door, but it'll take more than that, sweetheart. It's cute though that you thought a little lock would stop this. You would have needed to brick this place up to stop me. The lock gave in with a click and the door quietly swung open, no alarms and no surprises. You probably just heard a click or a knock and thought nothing more of it. But I stepped inside.
