A week later, Alayna was in her room with Ashley. They were getting ready for the winter formal. Alayna was wearing a mint green dress.
Ashley was wearing a dark blue dress. They had just finished doing their makeup, when there was a knock on the door.
"Come in." Alayna said.
Jack walked into the room. "Hi girls." He greeted.
"Hey Dad." "Hey Mr. Bolton." Alayna and Ashley said.
"Ashley, do you mind giving me a minute alone with Alayna?" Jack asked.
"Of course." Ashley said. "I'll wait downstairs." She walked out of the room.
"What's up, Dad?" Alayna asked.
"I want to apologize for how I acted towards you about the audition. It was wrong the way I reacted to it." Jack said. "I had no idea that's how people in school see you."
"It's okay, Dad." Alayna said.
"You were amazing up on that stage and you have a beautiful singing voice." Jack said.
"Thank you." Alayna said.
"Are you joining the Drama Club?" Jack asked.
"Yeah, I am." Alayna answered.
"Well, your mother and I are looking forward to seeing both you and Troy in future performances."
"Thank you, Daddy." Alayna said, hugging her father.
"You're welcome, baby girl." Jack said. "Have fun at the dance tonight."
"I will." Alayna said. They both headed downstairs.
"You girls ready?" Troy asked.
"Yep." Alayna said. "Bye Mom. Bye Dad."
"Have fun." Lucille said.
"Thanks for driving us tonight, Troy." Ashley said.
"No problem." Troy said.
They got to the school and Alayna noticed Ryan was waiting outside.
"Hey guys." He greeted them.
"Hey." Troy said.
"Hey Alayna." Ryan greeted again.
"Hi." Alayna said.
"I'm going to go inside." Troy said. "See if I can try to find Gabriella."
"I'll go with you." Ashley said, quickly following behind. And the other two were left on their own.
"You didn't have to wait outside for me." Alayna said. "It's cold out here."
"I didn't mind." Ryan said. "Let's go inside where it's warmer."
Alayna followed behind him.
"You look great." Ryan said.
"It's not too childish with the bow?" Alayna asked. "I mainly picked it for the color."
"Not at all." Ryan said. "It's a great color on you."
Alayna smiled.
"Do you want to dance?" Ryan asked.
"Sure." Alayna said.
Ryan held out his hand and Alayna took it. They danced for a bit.
"Did you want something to eat and drink?" Ryan asked.
"Yeah." Alayna said.
"Why don't you find somewhere to sit and I'll come find you."
Alayna nodded. She noticed Troy and Gabriella sitting at area away from everyone. She went over to them.
"Do you guys mind if Ryan and I join you?" Alayna asked.
"Not at all." Gabriella said.
"Where is Ryan?" Troy asked.
"Getting us something to eat." Alayna replied.
"Having fun?" Troy asked.
"Yeah." Alayna asked. "Why wouldn't I be?"
"Just asking." Troy said.
Ryan came over to them. "I didn't know what you liked, so I got a little bit of everything and I guessed on what soda you liked." He said. He had gotten her root beer.
"Well, you guessed right." Alayna said.
While they ate, Alayna looked around the gym.
Ashley was dancing with a boy in their grade, Jimmy Zara. He was on the JV basketball team and obsessed with Troy. Chad and Taylor were off to the side, talking to each other. Even Sharpay was having a good time with Zeke.
"Mind if I dance with Alayna?" Troy asked.
"Not if you don't mind me dancing with Gabriella." Ryan said.
"Go ahead." Troy said. He held his hand out and Alayna took it. She enjoyed the rest of night.
