Genevieve woke up early the following morning, her eyes snapping open as the sun rose over the city. It was a force of habit from her days back in district four. Her instructors used to make them do morning runs along the docks before training and she'd yet to shake the internal alarm clock she'd gained from it. She traipsed sluggishly into the bathroom to take a much needed shower.

Submerging herself under the spray of warm water she fiddled with a few buttons to wash her hair. A lavender foam appeared from a groove in the wall and she wasted no time massaging it into her scalp.

When she emerged from the bathroom squeaky clean and smelling of cherries she headed straight to the vanity by the bed. She grabbed a brush off the nightstand and pulled the brush through her wet hair, tying it into two braids with the elastic bands provided.

As she was pinning a stray hair into place Genevieve noticed a neatly folded stack of clothing sitting on the edge of the bed. Assuming it was her training outfit she picked it up and changed silently. She slipped on the flared out black pants that were made of a dark, silky material, and the grey tank top with a number "4" on the back, signifying her District. Then she pulled on the socks and shoes that were provided for her. Everything fit perfectly and she briefly wondered how they'd gotten her measurements so fast before dismissing the thought. Just as she was about to leave she noticed the necklace Annie had given to her glinting on the vanity. After a moment of contemplation she clasped it around her neck and pushed the door open, venturing out into the corridor.

She walked past Avoxes carrying trays to and from the elevators and frowned. Who on earth was up this early. It definitely wasn't Caspian who always valued extra sleep when it was given to him. Maybe it was Mags or Finnick working on interview strategies.

Genevieve walked into the dining area and stopped short when she spotted an unfamiliar face sitting at the breakfast table. The woman sitting at the table had shoulder length curly black hair and piercing brown eyes. She had turned around the minute Genevieve had entered, almost as if she could sense her.

"Who are you?" Genevieve demanded picking up a stray butter knife lying on a discarded tray full of empty glasses and dirty plates .

"Put the knife down, sunshine. I'm your mentor, my name's Haven. I wasn't expecting to see anybody else awake this early."

"Mags is my mentor." She retorted stubbornly, loosening her grip on the knife ever so slightly.

"She can't say anything, she'll be no help as a mentor. Which is why I'm here. I won the games just before Finnick. I was already in the capital so I didn't need to take the train with you up here." Haven replied sipping on a glass of coffee.

Genevieve contemplated this for a second before dropping the knife back into the tray and taking a seat opposite Haven.

Before she could even grab a plate, an Avox placed a mug on the table in front of her and poured her a steaming cup of green tea. Genevieve ignored the Avox and stared happily at the warm drink, before taking a long sip of it. Relishing in the taste as it trickled into her parched throat. It had been one of the drinks present on the train ride up and she'd soon found the taste to be almost addictive. If she came out of the games alive this would be the first thing she'd want.

A few minutes of comfortable silence passed before Haven restarted the conversation.

"I heard about what happened on the train. I see we have a pair of fighters this year. Usually all our female volunteers are just there to fangirl over Odair." She said nonchalantly.

Genevieve snorted "I'm not here to find love. I'm here to win."

"Good. Today into training, get those survival skills under your belt, so when you're in that situation in the games, everything is second nature to you. You don't need weapon training, that's what the academy was for. Got it?" Genevieve nodded, grateful for the advice.

Haven chewed on some strange looking fruit for a moment before pausing. "I couldn't help but notice that your last name is Coppergrove. Are you Darius' daughter?"

Genevieve nodded as she reached for some oats. "My Dad won the 47th Hunger Games and my grandfather, on my mothers side, won the 23rd."

"That's fantastic. I knew about your dad obviously but if your Grandfather won as well that makes you a 3rd Generation legacy. Sponsors go crazy for that kind of knowledge and it will definitely increase your odds, I'll tip Ceaser off about it before the interviews, he'll be sure to mention it." Haven said, speaking far too fast for Genevieve to keep up. Her mentors brain seemed to be going at a million miles an hour so she was really struggling to keep up with the endless stream of thoughts emerging.

At around 8:30, Daffodil went around and knocked on the doors of those left sleeping. Which resulted in her being yelled at by a very ticked off Caspian. It seemed to have done the trick though because a few minutes later the others began trickling half a sleep into the dining room, where the Avoxes were laying out more food for breakfast.

Once they'd all sat down and introduced Haven to Caspian, Finnick cleared his throat and looked over at the two tributes. "Alright, the plan for today is to work on your weaknesses and improve them. You can display some of your strengths for intimidation but keep an element of surprise. And of course, keep an eye out for potential allies." Caspian and Genevieve nodded their heads silently, both of their mouths full of food.

"What would you say your strengths are?" Haven asked, grabbing some paper and a pen from a passing Avox.

"My weapon of choice would be a trident but I'm just as proficient with spears. Hand to hand combat is also relatively easy given that I'm bigger than most of my opponents." Caspian stated, spitting crumbs as he spoke. Genevieve gagged at the display and he shot her a glare.

"Okay what about you Genevieve?" Haven asked scribbling in a messy script that Genevieve doubted anyone could decipher.

"I prefer the sword as my main weapon but throwing stars are a close second. I can use a spear and trident but Caspian probably outperforms me with those." She said truthfully as Caspian grinned. "Hand to hand combat is easy if my opponent is the same size or smaller but I am quite fast so there's always a chance I could outrun any potential threats."

"Good, we'll talk about potential terrains and tactics after training but you don't want to be late so finish your food and get going." Haven explained nodding her head as she jotted down some more notes.
