fai
"welcome home" pt.1
"are you excited?" mariana questioned, halting in her tracks to examine the mangos that were in display in the white basket.
" these are beautiful!" she arrubtly stated, holding one of the mangos in her hand, amazed by the unique color combination of purple and blue.
i nodded in agreeance, placing three of the mangos in my basket before handing the man a five dollar bill and telling him to keep the change.
" but back to your question, no and yes... our last conversation wasn't the best but hopefully seeing him in person will help rekindle our relationship" i stated, hesitant at the thought of seeing drayton but nonetheless, longing to see my son.
our last conversation consisted of him drunkenly telling me to "fuck off" and i went completely off on him because hello? the disrespect was not welcomed regardless of what state you are in.
" well... nevermind" mariana began but quickly dismissed her suggestion, formulating inquiry within me.
" no finish..." i faintly demanded, stopping at the cherry stand to grab three bags; knowing that both me and drayton desired cherries so one bag wouldn't dare last thirty seconds.
" i mean... i don't know fai, when i talked to him he seemed overwhelmed with you always checking up on him. quoted from him ' it feels like i'm still home' -- he's an adult now, legal to buy alchohol, limit your calls to twice a week... get a man or something to keep you busy. he has his life, get yours" mariana frankly stated, shrugging her shoulders as she got herself a bag of cherries, as well.
first of all, ouch.
two, am i really that immense?
" oh..." was all i could utter, still consuming her straightford statement, walking mindlessly to the next fruit stand.
" fai, listen" she stops me, grasping at my arm, arresting me from walking.
" don't take it personal but he got his own apartment... so he wouldn't have to stay the summer in the same household as you"
pardon me?
" how the fuck did he do that?" i asked, bewildered from the news being told to me, nearly snapping my neck to face my siser who stood stiffly and uneased.
" he only gets paid enough to pay for his books, food, and clothing. where the hell did he get money to buy- mariana!" i exclaimed loudly, realization striking me harshly.
" fai calm down, you got these white people looking at us" she roughly whispered, pushing me to the exit of the fruit market, while glancing and sending apologetic grins to the people who looked at us.
" i don't give a damn! how dare you buy him an apartment, without me knowing- it's so fucked up especially when you know i've been preparing for his time back home. i cleared my schedule from work and all!" i expressed at extreme frustruation, feeling my body radiate with heat, the beaming sun not doing justice.
" that's the problem! he doesn't and i surely don't have to inform you in our doings! he's a grown ass man who can take care of himself and have his own space and privacy!" she deadpanned , her face frowned with agitation.
" if he's such a grown ass man why couldn't he use his own gotdamn money to rent himself an apartment? last time i checked grown ass men had their money together and didn't waste it on the latest pair of jordans! so excuse me, i'm going home and preparing for him to come home" i scoffed, speeding away from my sister who stood dumbfounded and embarrassed by the attention we gathered from the strangers.
what a day and it's only morning time.
