When I die, don't look for me in church pews. Don't pray for my peace to a god I don't believe in for a fate too good to be true. I won't be looking down from the heavens or up from the depths of hell.

Look for me in the night sky, in the stars twinkling down on you and comets waving by. Search for me in constellations that almost escape your notice. Look for me far above amongst the satellites and airplanes flying past. I'll be in the almost-too-cold nights while you gaze into the eyes of light-years beyond. I'll be with you as you stare in wonder at the sky.

When I die don't waste your money on a casket. Send me straight into the dirt, give my shell to science, make me fertilizer for the trees, or turn me into ashes on your shelf. Give me one last meaning so I don't go to waste. Don't send me away in colors I don't wear and don't even think of letting me go without my heavy eyeliner.

Promise not to mourn me in a church where the talk of God is given more thought than me. Don't let them play those dusty old hymns while you think of me. Listen to my favorite sad songs and let them remind you of my existence. Don't forget me. Remember that I love you. Share photos, memories, and food. Take all my belongings and let them hold me in your heart. Write me letters about your life while I've been away. I'll read them over and over if I can.

When I die, remember me. Don't let them bury who I am.
