𝗝𝗘𝗦𝗦𝗘 𝗚𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗗 over at Leon, Letty and Isabella as they worked on the engine for a car. "Got TR7 here, with a ball bearing upgrade. What it's going to do is, it's going to spool up really quickly.
"I got this set up for 24 PSI." Letty told him as she used a spanner to twist some bolts.
Jesse nodded. "Got it."
"All right, I'm done here." Isabella nodded to Jesse who then walked over to help Leon with some screws. She walked over to Dom and Brian who were having small talk. Her boyfriend was kneeling, nestled in the hood of the car as he placed something where the engine would go.
Brian sat outside of the car as Isabella leaned against the passenger side watching Dom screw bolts in and wipe the sweat of his forehead. "So you got big plans tonight?" Dom asked Brian. Isabella's eyes grew, remembering that night Vince walked out of the house. The heated mess was all because Mia asked Brian to take her to dinner — the problem was, Vince wanted to take her out to the same place Mia asked Brian to take her. She swallowed her annoyance, seeing as Vince didn't take it kind-heartedly.
"Yeah, we're going out to dinner." Brian shrugged.
Dom stopped what he was doing and turned to face Brian. "You break her heart, I'll break your neck." He threatened.
"And I'm sure to contribute to that." Isabella chimed in, Brian chuckled whilst shaking his head.
"That's not gonna happen." He glanced between the protective couple.
Dom grabbed a rag that his girlfriend offered and removed the grease on his hands before hopping out the hood. He threw the rag on a couple of boxes before leading her out of the store, urging Brian to follow him. "I wanna show you something."
A confused look was shared between the crew in the store as the three left, pulling out and speeding off somewhere. It wasn't long before Isabella had soon discovered that they were just heading back to the Toretto household. She smiled softly, knowing what Dom was about to show Brian as he pulled into the driveway and walked towards the backyard. They all walked towards the door as Dom gave it a firm pull, revealing a 1970 Dodge Charger still in excellent condition – it was Dom's pride and joy besides his girlfriend.
"Wow.." Brian muttered in fascination as he examined it.
"Me and my dad built her." Dom explained as Isabella leaned against the door frame, allowing the boys to talk and her boyfriend reminiscing about the old days. "Nine hundred horses of Detroit muscle."
"She's a beast." She added, folding her arms and earning a small smile from Dom.
"Know what she ran in Palmdale?" Dom asked Brian.
He shook his head in response. "No, what'd she run?"
"9 seconds, flat." Dom replied proudly.
"God.." Brian muttered.
Dom smiled slightly. "My dad was driving. So much torque, the chassis twisted coming off the line. Barely kept her on the track."
"So what's your best time?" Brian asked in curiosity.
A sad look came over Dom's face. "I've never driven her."
"Why not?" Brian chuckled.
"Because it scares the shit out of me." Dom revealed.
Isabella knew what story Dom was lining up next for Brian. Her boyfriend's father was an amazing man, someone who she knew very well. She practically grew up with Dom's parents – both their parents being best friends. Although they only met within the third grade along with Vince, she knew the touching and sad story about Dom's father. She was happy that he was finally trusting Brian enough to open up something he always buried so deeply within the back of his head.
Dom pointed to a framed photograph hanging on the building wall. A three year old Dom sat on his father's leg, both of their faces plastered with big white smiles. "That's my dad. He was coming up in the pro stock car circuit. Last race of the season. A guy named Kenny Linder came up from inside on the final turn. He clipped his bumper and put him into the wall at 120. Um- I watched my dad burn to death."
Isabella wiped away a stray tear which fell loosely down her cheek. She could remember the event as if it happened just yesterday. Her parents bearing the news was a loss of someone so important in her life, especially her father's. She remembered a day he stared sadly at a picture frame of just the two of them and he spent the entire day getting drunk and emotional off drinks and remembering his best friend. It was a memory she would never forget and she was glad that Dom was sharing the only remnants of his father to Brian.
"I remember hearing him scream, but the people there recalled that I was the one screaming." Brian exhaled, having this newfound information had a heavy feeling in his chest. "I saw Linder about a week later. I had a wrench and I hit him and I didn't intend to keep hitting him but by the time I was done, I couldn't lift my arm."
A soft expression fell on Isabella's face as her boyfriend continued to speak. She stood up from her leaning position and walked towards Dom as he cuddled her, knowing that sometimes the topic of his own father was a little touchy for his own girlfriend. He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her into his chest. "He's a janitor at a high school. Has to take the bus to work everyday and they banned me from the tracks for life. I live my life a quarter mile at a time. Nothing else matters. Not the mortgage, not my team and all their bullshit. For those 10 seconds or less, I'm free."
