(Elena's POV)

We walked through the forest in silence, keeping each other some sort of com0any. Meanwhile there hundreds no- thousands of questions I wanted to ask but instead just kept quiet relishing in the freedom I now had.

I was still reeling from being let free and if you looked close enough you could notice the small spark in my eyes was growing little by little.

I had lost my hope buy now I was gaining it little bit little. Since I wasn't paying attention a stumbled over a large branch and just as I was about to hit the ground something caught me by my shirt. He lifted me up and raised an eyebrow "please be more careful.  I don't want the kid I've been watching for a couple of days ro get mad at me because I didn't save her sister. " I nodded slightly "That does sound like her huh?"

I chuckled slightly remembering just how tough my sister acted when she was around those she knew. She wanted to prove herself to be brave and that she could take care of herself.  That is what worries me, she may act brave but I know that she's scared and can't really defend herself.

"How is she? I mean is she hurt?" I glanced at him hoping that she unharmed and mentally okay. He looked at me "she's fine, a little bit down but still hopeful. Honestly surprised most of us when we took her in. Usually those from the outside lose hope and don't have much human interaction. "

I sighed softly "I'm aware. I tried what I could but...." He finished for me after I trailed off "you didn't want to give her too much hope because you didn't  want her to be crushed."

"Yeah.... it's nice that someone understands. I used to think we were the lasts ones and then someone showed up. It was refreshing but also like a memory. They looked at us as if we were remnants or qn artifact from an ancient world. I guess hey couldn't guess how we were still smiling and laughing. How we seemed to not have a care in the world."

I never noticed his sad stare, nor would I ever but I would later on learn that we had it the hardest.  Just two kids surviving and smiling; it was the impossible and I never knew it. Everyone else has calls and groups. We? We just had each other.

We both began walking again and I pondered about what to do "so, where are we going again?" Was I walking with a random stranger without even knowing where we were going? Yes, yes I did.

He answered me quietly "to my home." I raised an eyebrow "and where is that?" He scoffed "really think that I'll tell someone who I'm not sure is trustworthy yet? No way"

I blinked slowly as a smile grew across my face. Good, they weren't dumb and were actually responsible. Maybe I could trust them with our lives. Surely humanity isn't that far gone right?

I stared at the path in front of us as I tried to find an answer. I have to try my best. If this doesn't work then we could run and be free.

After all I have alien immunity now
