7:00 P.M.

For the time being, instead of doing nothing as we waited for Bethany, some of us dove into the snacks or just talked about the latest book that we've read. The eeriness wore off a little and the empty basement didn't seem so unnerving anymore.

"Remember when we used to pole dance on these poles, Maddie?" Samantha giggles referring to Maddie's carpet beams supporting the ceiling. "It reminds me of when I first met you!" She smiles wide at Maddie trying not to snort. Maddie looks down smiling gently.

"Yeah..." Maddie adds calmly. Me and Charlie stare at the two in confusion with our brows raised.

"Oh uh, huh?" I ask as my brows furrow looking at Charlie. Samantha's smirk grows.

"We can literally walk there right now!" She declares proudly.

Suddenly the atmosphere changes as we hear moderate footsteps creep downstairs. Finally, she has arrived.

We all stop eating, talking, breathing. Everything seems so weird. Like actually weird. But, it's just Bethany who is literally one of best friends. She couldn't hurt a fly, or anything really if she tried. Beth is a writer, not some sweaty sporty athletic girl. Though in my opinion, her writing isn't very... well, good. I just never tell her that. I'm too scared to. I look up as Bethany approaches the little circle we've made near the snacks.

"You're really late..." Maddie says in a monotone voice. She frowns and crosses her arms.

"Hey Beth!" Samantha says like her usual silly self. For a while everyone is silent, waiting for Beth to respond."Let me guess, you're just gonna write your dogshit stories all night" Sam rolls her eyes. We all then look at each other just wondering why she's just standing there, doing absolutely nothing. All she does is stare at Sam with this look. I can't understand it, nor do I know the intentions. Suddenly Beth just shoves her way past me and Maddie, putting down her bag.

"Geez, what's Bethany's deal?" Charlie whispers to Sam. Sam gets out of her trance of staring at Bethany from the result of what the hell just happened. She turns her head to look at Charlie.

"Erm, I don't even know. Probably because of what we said about her writing." Sam whispers. She's not the best at whispering because I can literally make out everything that she's saying. I feel bad though. I feel bad for Bethany. Her writing really does suck, but they didn't have to be so cruel and straight up tell her to her face. I'm surprised she even showed up. We comment about how bad her writing is frequently.

The silence is very loud and multiple minutes pass.

"So! We should do karaoke" Maddie says with enthusiasm breaking the silence. Thank god. Finally something loud! This should be fun.

"Oh oh oh! Put on Taylor Swift ones!" I shout. Maddie grabs the tv remote and goes to YouTube typing in "Taylor Swift Karaoke." The usual channel, Sing King is the first to pop up. She then goes on to "Love Story (Taylor's Version)." Yes!

"Yessss!! I love this song" I  comment. I quickly shut up, getting ready for the intro. I then see the color swipe right onto the words and I start singing my heart out along with Sam and Charlie. I stop singing for a second when I notice Maddie not singing. She's just on her phone. Her eyes are narrowed like shes doing something really serious.

"Why aren't you singing?" I ask. Maddie looks up from her phone and hides her screen.

"Oh, I'm not really much of a Swifty." She responds. Not much of a Swifty. Wow. It surprises me a little that some people actually don't like her. In my opinion shes a really good singer, one of my favorites. But I guess everyone has their own preferences. I then just leave it at that and return to singing. But I can't help to think about waht she was doing on her phone. Especially hiding it. More importantly, Bethany was in the corner also on her phone. She still hasn't said a word since she has arrived. I think we need to check up on her after the song. I'm really worried about her. I hope her feelings aren't too hurt after Sam and Charlie broke her heart. She's often upset about this.
