chapter 7 : SOS

mirae laid in her bed, keeping her attention on the cat stickers she placed on the wall when she was younger. after one fell off while she was asleep,  she learned to stop picking at them so she wouldn't have to go thru another cat sticker loss.

her room was still cold, the ac unit that was in her room running since the night before. her blanket was up to her chin, mirae trying to pretend like she was still asleep.

she could hear footsteps outside of her room, her moms slippers dragging on the wood that laid on the floor of their house, ridding of all the silence that would usually be this early in the morning. her door opened, the light from the hallway lighting up her own room.

"mirae, come on. we have to leave." mirae stared at her mom, not wanting to get out of her bed. she was a little hungry, but she knew she couldn't eat right before her surgery.

"your surgery is at nine. we have to leave now so you can get prepped." mirae picked up her phone to check the time, realizing they did have to leave now or they would be running on a time crunch at the hospital.

"did you already pack a bag?" mirae asked, grabbing her smaller blanket and a stuffy that she usually slept with at night. mirae's mom nodded, showing her the black duffle bag that they usually brought when it came to over night stays.

"chanwoo and chanyoung are still asleep so make sure to stay quiet so you don't wake them up." mirae nodded, turning off her lamp and walking out of her room with her mom.

mirae passed by her bathroom, needing to pee and brush her teeth. she stared into the mirror as she cleaned her teeth, the bump in her neck evident to the naked eye. she sighed, spitting out her toothpaste and rinsing her mouth. she walked out of her bathroom, walking past her two younger brothers room.

"mirae." the girl turned around, her older brother peaking his head out of his room, "good luck. i'll be there when you wake up." mirae nodded, waving bye to subin. fuck she was terrified.

she's had biopsy's done before. she's gotten surgery before. she knew she had to be calm for them to put her on anesthesia, so if she couldn't calm her beating heart down before they got to the hospital, she didn't know how long they'd have to push back the surgery.

"get in the car. i'm gonna say bye to your father and then we will be off." mirae's mom handed her the night bag, and walked towards their room.

mirae walked towards the front of their house, and into their garage which stored their vehicles. she waited for her mom to unlock one of them, hearing the sound come from the car that their mom usually drove.

she got in the back, placing the night bag in the front passenger seat. she put her seatbelt on, waiting for her mom. she thought about turning the car on just for the ac, but she was too lazy to reach over the front seats to press the ignition button.

she saw her mom exit the house, watching her open the garage door and walk over to the driver side. she got in, starting the car up. "you should've sat next to me. i would've let you control the music." her mother plugged in her own phone, the display screen show-casing what she was last listening to.. which was nothing.

"are you ready to go?" mirae nodded, her mom backing out of the garage and driving out of their community, heading towards the main highways. mirae was ready for this, she had to be ready. she wasn't scared.. as long as she told herself she wasn't she would be fine.

everything would be fine.
