Chapter 2; Paige’s POV

As I walked off the bus, I breathed in the fresh autumn scent that was lingering in the air. The weather this time of year was my favorite; just right for hoodies and boots, but not so cold that you have to wear 50 layers of clothes just to get the mail. It amazes me.

                I walked into the school building that would be basically my second home for the next two years, with butterflies fluttering slightly in my stomach. Tons of worries were running through my mind: ‘What if I get lost looking for my classes?’ ‘What if I don’t know any of the people in my classes?’ ‘What if my teachers hate me?’ I shook the negative thoughts out of my head. This year was a new year, and a new me. Yeah, right, I thought. That’s what I tell myself every year, and it never changes anything.

                Suddenly, realizing I was lagging behind Brielle and Bryar at an extremely slow pace, I rushed to catch up with my friends. Looking around the cafeteria as we walked in, I wondered what exactly would be in store for me this year. Teachers were directing us towards the gym, where all my other friends and many people I didn’t know yet were sitting on a set of bleachers against the wall. We walked towards them with smiles on our faces.

                I rushed toward my absolute best friend Zaylee first, who I mentioned earlier. She looked amazing, as always, with a Hollister crop top and a cami underneath it. She also wore dark blue skinny jeans and her Bear Paw boots. Her hair was in a fishtail, pulled perfectly to the side. I’ve always admired her sense of style.

                “Sister!” I screamed, running towards her and attacking her in a hug. She almost fell over from the force of my hug.

                “Woah, Hello!” she replied, stumbling slightly. “What ya listening to?”

                I realized, as she said that, that I hadn’t taken out my headphones. She knew what I was listening to, she just wanted to mess with me.

                “Umm whadaya think?” I answered, and she gave me a knowing look.

                “KARMIN!” We both yelled in unison, then busted up laughing, considering we hadn’t even planned on saying the name of our favorite band at the same time.

                Our other friends looked at us as if we had three heads. They’re the crazy ones, not us, if they haven’t already noticed our insanity before now.

                “What? Ain’t you ever seen two best friends fangirling over their favorite band?” I questioned them, as if they were stupid. They’re not, they may just be a bit slow though.

                “I swear, you two are the craziest people we know.” Mykayla, another one of the girls in our group said. Our whole group consists of;

Brielle, the outgoing and crazy one.

Bryar, the short and hyper one.

Zaylee, my best friend and she’s also one of the most practical ones.

Mykayla, the one who is quiet in class but outside of class, she never shuts up.

Linzey, the dancer and the one with the most beautiful and soulful alto voice out of us.

Juliana, the mentally insane one.

Evalina, the one who is younger than us by a year but she’s very advanced so she comes to junior high with us. She also acts like she’s older than she is, but we don’t mind.
