THE INCESSANT SOUND OF BUZZING SLOWLY lulled Celeste out of her slumber. She rustles around, slowly opening her eyes. Confusion filled her as she took in her surroundings, how'd she end up in the backseat of her car? The last thing Celeste remembered was listening to Paul talk about the constellations and... that's it. Paul! She sits up, looking around for him. Celeste let out a sigh of relief once she saw him sitting in the driver's seat, his head dangled to the side and his lips were parted. Gentle snores escaped his mouth as he snuggled into himself. Celeste picks up her phone and turns it on, a string of curses quickly followed once she took in the time and how many missed calls she had.
20 miss calls from Dad
12 miss calls from Bella :)
6 miss calls from Edwin (Edward)
10 miss calls from Alice
4 miss calls from T-Dawg
2 miss calls from Mikey
Celeste roughly shakes Paul who mumbled an incoherent response. She rolls her eyes before slapping her palm across his face. Immediately Paul shoots up, alarm expressed all over his face. "Why didn't you wake me up last night?!" Celeste exclaimed.
He rubs his cheek, "You looked tired and I didn't want you driving home like that. Sue me for caring," Paul retorts.
"My father's going crazy. I–I need to go!" Celeste exited the vehicle, not giving Paul a chance to respond.
Paul left the driver's seat, allowing Celeste to take his place. He runs a hand through his hair as guilt flooded his face, "I'm sorry, Celeste." He apologizes and Celeste takes a moment to look at him, "It's alright... hey, thanks for staying with me. I— it was very thoughtful."
His shoulders dropped, his frown being replaced with a genuinely pleased smile. Paul's eyes sparkled with an emotion that Celeste couldn't read, "No problem, Stratford." He assured her.Celeste puts the car into reverse and drives away, not before glancing at the rearview mirror. Paul stood at his spot, slowly becoming a distant figure.
Celeste pulled into the driveway, she took notice of the sheriff's car and the rusty red pickup truck. Dread spread throughout her body as she turned off the car engine. She slides a hand over her tired face before exiting the car. The need to light a cigarette came and Celeste swallowed the desire. As she went up the steps, Oscar's voice carried through the doors followed by Charlie's reassuring voice. She unlocks the door and steps into the house, everything went silent.
The young witch timidly walks into the living room, multiple pairs of eyes landed on her. Celeste crosses her arms over her chest as she looks around the room. Oscar, Charlie, Bella, and Sam stared at her with different ranges of emotions. Bella was the first to arise and she walked over to Celeste before pulling her into a gentle hug. A breath of relief escaped her as she reciprocated the action. Bella pulls away but still stays by her side, sending a reassuring smile Celeste's way.
