03 ‒ sheep among wolves

Sakura was a genin now.

It wasn't anything special or something worth celebrating, it was a normal achievement, yet Sakura couldn't wipe the grin off her face as she held the headband in her hand.

Going up to her parents who cheered for her, she couldn't help but hug them in happiness.

Together they bought a nice red and black cloth and her mother sewed up a pretty yet practical outfit for her.

Fixing her long hair with her headband and smoothing any wrinkles on her new clothes, Sakura strapped up her pouch on her waist and put on her shoes.

Sakura was a genin now.

But this wasn't something she expected.

Watching her assigned team be with two weirdos who kissed each other during the orientation program wasn't something she wished to happen.

Naruto, as much of a good guy as he was, the pinkette didn't like him that much because he was very troublesome.

Sasuke... he was a piece of shit, she just didn't want to talk with him.

Together, they remained as the last team in the empty classroom without anyone because their jounin instructor decided that he wanted to one-up Sasuke and Naruto in terms of annoyances and didn't arrive on time.

Sakura watched with envy as Ino left.

At least she gave me food, Sakura thought as she bit into a piece of cookie without bothering to share it with Naruto who was salivating beside her.

Naruto decided to prank their sensei who fell for it and they were at the rooftop introducing themselves.

"I'm Kakashi Hatake and I have nothing interesting about me." It was something their sensei said along his lines of introduction. Well, it wasn't what he said but that's why she understood.

Also, he read porn in public, yeah, her opinion of him was beyond any help now.

"I want to be Hokage so people acknowledge me!" Naruto's dreams in short and he liked ramen, like a lot, like so much that it was questionable.

"I'm emo and I want revenge." Sasuke wanted to be the 'it guy' with the pose he sat and he didn't like anything apparently.

Her introduction was precise, talking about her likes, dislikes and hobbies.

"As for my dream, none as of now!" Sakura ended with a smile.

In truth, she had a dream, just not enough for someone to take it seriously.

As for my dream, I want to be the strongest kunoichi!

Not taken seriously because she wasn't born a ninja.

Sakura was a genin now.

And she hated every part part of it.

She knew genin were the lowest in the hierarchy but still, what kind of missions were to deliver food only to find a long black-haired guy break up with a white-haired guy in public?!

They didn't give much drama for her to gossip with Ino, that was the only thing she was disappointed about.

Then came her sensei who provided her with absolutely no training, why was she told to sit on the side while Naruto and Sasuke got to spar??

When she walked off without talking to them, her sensei who was supposed to teach her didn't bother removing his gaze from the ugly cursed book which he always kept in his hands.

Sakura managed to befriend her sensei's rival team, well except stuck-up Neji.

They all managed to help her, especially Rock Lee who was someone like her, chained up due to circumstances.

She considered him and Guy-sensei her idols since they were so strong.

The pinkette did manage to improve, no thanks to her own sensei.

And then came that mission.

Land of Waves, Haku, Zabuza, Sasuke nearly dying, Naruto going berserk and Sakura felt helpless for the first time.

Something changed since that mission, Naruto and Sasuke's bond shattered and became fragile.

They were always at each other's throats before but back then, they knew not to take it this seriously.

Seriously enough that they almost killed each other.

And she was participating in the chunin exams.
