What a day to be alive-- there's no line at that cafe I like!
What was so different this Wednesday morning? This cafe was most loved by the Seijoh students for the breads and pastries, but today there was a chalk sign under the awning.
"Not available..?" Mayumi read to herself, scanning over the few items on the written list. "Heh, punks, I got pre-orders~" she hummed and waltzed into the humble shop. The only items that were inside even if they were labeled to be out, are the items ordered from before. Now, Yumi never pre-ordered, but one of the workers made a mistake with her purchase and thought it was for Tuesday, which isn't too bad in this situation.
"Mornin'.." She greeted softly to the person yawning behind the counter. "I'm here to get the pastries I requested on Friday? Ejiri Mayumi?"
"Oh, right," The young boy cleared his throat, "Sorry about the mix-up, I really hope we didn't inconvenience you too badly.... We didn't, right..?" He looked really guilty as he handed the paper bag of goods.
"Oh, no, don't worry about that..!" She chuckled awkwardly and shrugged, "I was supposed to give some to my family, but eh, maybe next time."
"I- I'll add in some extra profiteroles to make up for it! I'm really sorry!" He sounded so panicked yet soft, it was kind of funny in a way. "Well, uh, they might look funny but they taste the same as the usual-- they were just put aside because the pastry was slightly more deflated than usual.." His voice got quieter with embarrassment as he slid the small box on the counter.
"O-oh, that's--" Yumi was dumbfounded, but what could she do? "Uhm, thank you? It's really no big fuss you know.."
"Please, take it! And did we get your order right?" He seemed more stressed than he should be, but okay.
She opened the bag, "Milk bread and pain au chocolat, seems 'bout right." She smiled softly as she eyed the little box of cream puffs. "And what flavors are these?" she asked, picking it up.
"It's a mix of two types in there, uh, chocolate and salted caramel."
"Well thank you, thank you a lot actually. I guess I can, erm," Yumi thought for a moment. What was there to do with this amount of treats now? She's going straight to school after this. "Share it with my.. friends."
"W-well I hope you and your friends enjoy!"
She sighed smiling and placed her money on the counter before turning around. "Thank you~" She hummed.
The boy blinked a few times, "Wait d-didn't you pay before already?"
"It's a tip!" She called out sweetly before closing the door behind her.
And Mayumi was on the sidewalk and walking before the store boy could properly thank her. That's okay. She got free food, so.
All is well, free pastries at the start of the day!
"What!!"
Yumi was a little startled by the yell of some guy that sounded heavily devastated. She turned around to see who was making all that noise in the morning.
"They've got no more milk bread?!" "Shut it Shittykawa it is too early in the morning for you to be acting like a child!" "Are you insinuating that it's fine for him to act like a child at any other part of the day?" "I'd love to make fun of his reaction but I feel the same way because milk bread ain't the only thing unavailable.."
The seniors of the volleyball team... all four of them. They were out of uniform and really sweaty, probably were finishing up their jog before morning practice?
"There's always tomorrow, senpai." Oh. A voice she knew. Up walked Watari from behind the four tall boys. He seemed amused but not at all bothered by his older teammates. And then she and him made eye contact, "Ejiri-chan!!" he waved.
