I stand here looking at the small roughed up curley headed blonde before me. She is planted on her ass after just running right into me. Now she is looking up at me, for a moment that is lingering almost too long.
Clearing her throat she says. "I've been looking for you. Both of you." Her eyes dart back and forth between me and Cassius.
There is something about those bright blue eyes and golden hair that are so familiar. "I guess I'll apologize then, for being in your way. " I tell her sarcasticly as I fix my black leathered top that barely moved.
Cassius just elbows me in the arm for my 'rudeness'. He steps forward reaching out for her hand, which she grabs as he pulls her to her feet. She begins dusting herself off before meeting my gaze again and then looking back to my brother.
"Cassius " she says clearing her throat. "your sister is in trouble."
He arches a brow at her. "What? Where is she?" He asks. We both know but what if something happened in the time we've been apart.
"She's with King Beron. She helped me escape to return to my father but she told me you would be looking for her." She looks back at me. "you and Simon."
Cassius stands there lost in thought. We didn't expect this. We need an army but-but she's in more danger than we thought, what if they kill her before we get there. "We should go." I say breaking Cassius from his thoughts.
"What?" He questions. "No we can't do that. We have to at least go to your fam-." He stops to correct himself. "The Bramwell's, first."
"We won't make it in time, if there is anything I know about your sister, it's that she's a stubborn smartass." I tell him . " That's bound to get her killed." All very true things.
Cassius changes his stance. Arching his back and broadening his already broad shoulders. His 'Leader' pose, as I call it. "No Simon. The answer is no. We have to save the village. Save Fendara." He starts walking towards the small pub down the road way.
I begin marching after him Atara and the annoying blonde in toe. "You're really that selfish ?" I ask him.
He stops causing me to almost run into him but I catch myself. "Me selfish?" Cassius steps closer, face to face with me. "You're the one that's fucking selfish Simon. You are willing to let our kind die for one person to live. Even then if we save her, either of us could die and then there would be no way to get an army together to save the rest of our people."
The rage in his eyes catches me off guard. I don't think he's ever yelled at me with this much anger before. "She's your sister. Yours. Not my family and yet here I am willing to risk my life for hers. Why not you?" I say stern back in his face.
He rolls his eyes. "I just told you moron. One life is not worth hundreds. Not even my own blood." He steps back and looks away shaking his head. "I have a roll to fulfill. So do you. You promised to help us, to speak with the Bramwell's."
He looks back at me and my nostrils flare at the second mention of my sur name. "It won't matter. I was doing it as a favor to your father. When I get there they will dismiss me like they've always done." I comb my fingers through my hair. "They'd rather us die than help there degenerate son." I'm not yelling anymore just stating facts.
He ignores everything I just said. "Why do you even care?" He asks raising a brow in confusion.
I'm not sure what's he's asking with that question. I blink. "Care about what?"
There's no pause as he just asks me directly. "Why do you care so much about my sister?"
Shit.
