Tony was having a great day (sarcastic). First, Steve had dragged him into a hallway to yell at him for an entire half an hour. Tony had simply stared him right in the face, sipping his coffee with a tired look on his face.
What is wrong with you? Blah, blah blah.
Kidnapped a kid! Blah, blah, blah.
Can't believe you'd do this! Blah, blah, blah.
For a soldier, the guy didn't seem to understand that Tony was just following orders. And if his curiosity was piqued along the way, then so be it. He was intrigued by the kid. Sue him.
After that fun encounter (which did absolutely nothing to sway Tony's opinion on the matter; honestly, give him a break. He was just doing what he was told. No dirt on his shoulder), Barton had decided to do the same thing.
Yay.
Then Nat.
Then Thor had been shooting confused glances at him all day.
Then... actually, Tony hadn't seen Bruce that day.
Score 1 for Tony.
Now, Thor stood in the center of their semicircle in the lounge, unfortunately with a ever-so-angry Nick Fury on their backs. The whole team sat attentively, curious to hear what warranted a call to Fury. Thor had apparently called him the day before, claiming that he had important things to discuss with him and everyone else. Fury had grumbled and complained about having to come, but eventually gave in.
Percy sat on a chair in a corner, trying to avoid eye contact with Fury while still maintaining a dirty look in his general direction. Thor cleared his throat, and started pacing while Fury raised an eyebrow in his direction, arms crossed.
"Well? Get on with it," Fury said, at the same time when Tony said, "If this is about those Norse-themed pubs, I'm not buying the chain for you." The two stared at each other for a minute, Tony's eyebrow raised and Fury glaring at him.
"I summoned you here to tell you that young Perseus is not a threat to your safety. If anything, he is an asset to the Avengers," Thor said, ignoring Nick and Tony.
Percy brightened up, looking hopefully to Thor.
"And what makes you say that?" Tony asked, already done with the conversation. He idly studied his nails and wondered how so much grease had worked its way under them.
He was tired of the kid and tired of his teammates. Everything was so much easier when it was just him and Pepper. Unfortunately, she was away in California for business that Tony refused to bother to attend to.
"I have reasons to trust him. I know that he would never sabotage Earth's Mightiest Heroes. And I know that he is no terrorist. The strange circumstances surrounding him... they are not his fault."
Percy mouthed a thanks to the god of thunder.
The almighty god of thunder vouching for a rando teenage nobody. That was a new one. Tony tended to take agreements in trust quite seriously, perhaps as a result of being such an integral part of the business community. Thus, the verbal oath made him trust Jackson just a little more. Which was unfortunate. Tony didn't want to get an... attachment to the kid. He was still probably a terrorist. Definitely. One-hundred percent.
Tony definitely wasn't trying to convince himself.
Nick still had his arms crossed. "I need concrete evidence."
"You're not getting any," Percy said, eyebrows furrowed. "I'm telling you, it's too dangerous."
Tony snorted at that. He was a pretentious little teenager.
