ONE YEAR LATER...

The blip had opened up a divide in opinions. Some were glad to have their loved ones back again. Others were annoyed. It was understandable, a lot of people came back to find someone in their living room and others became quickly unemployed. Plenty of students had to redo the year despite already having been through it. The world was overpopulated.

Melissa still hadn't managed to find a new place to live. Apartment buildings were all full, some even housing more than what should be allowed. Houses were difficult to find, and they were all sold out or overpopulated. Finding a forever home after the blip was one of the most difficult things to do.

For the past year, Melissa slept on the long sofa in Sarah's living room. The spare bedroom was given to her kids, and Sam's room was never touched anyway. That's how Melissa ended up on a plane, standing across from Sam in his Falcon suit.

Melissa herself was in a black catsuit, one that was found lying around in her closet when SHEILD first became aware of her enhancement and low-level threat. It had been provided for her with yearly updated versions in hopes of her helping with Avenger-level threats. But each suit was left to collect dust in her wardrobe.
Obviously until now.

She stood tall, her arms crossed over her chest. Now and then, she would tap her foot against the floor, the metal toe cap making a louder bang than she wanted it to make.

Sam was staring attentively at the screen in front of him, something Melissa probably should have been doing as well. The Major was pacing in circles around the wall of electronics, taking a glance at whatever information each screen had. "The criminal organisation known as LAF is targeting Captain Vasant, one of our military liaisons."

"LAF?" Sam questioned.

"Yeah, they're high-powered. We lost contact with Vasant's plane just after it took off." Melissa caved, walking over to Sam to look over his shoulder at the information. Four men with all of their biological information, as well as their photo IDs, were on the screen, along with the layout of the actual plane.
"We need you two to make sure that the LAF doesn't deliver on their threat." Sam began to walk towards the door of the plane, goggles in hand. Melissa was just on his heels. "Vasant's plane has already entered Tunisian airspace. US military cannot be seen operating out there."

Begrudgingly, Sam pushed the buzzing button, "I got it."

"Someone got an attitude." Melissa mocked, stretching the metal coin to make a headband.

He gave her a look before looking back to the electronic wall of the plane. "You guys fly low, drop me off, I fly up to intercept. Melissa is going to follow my lead out there. No treaties violated." The large doors whirred as they opened, the wind pushing into the plane and blowing Melissa's short blonde hair array.

"First Lieutenant Torres, our intel officer, will be helping on the ground." To prepare herself, Melissa shook her limbs, the metallic bracelets on her wrists and rings on her fingers making harmonic jingles. "And Melissa, Sam, this has to be subtle."

Sam turned to face the Major, his back facing the clouds, "Subtle. Got it." Then he fell backwards, falling out of the plane. He waited a few minutes, until he naturally barrel rolled, to spread his wings and catch flight.

Melissa just stared intently, before looking back up to the Major's eyes. "I think you just spoke to a brick wall." Melissa too, jumped off the plane, spreading her arms and fingers. Regret for not taking a breath beforehand hit her as she fell into the harsh wind, her breath completely taken away. She felt her hair whipped around ferociously behind her, occasionally scratching her neck until the green mist coated her hands and feet and the free-falling ceased.
