Kagami waved his hands frantically as the shot clock approached 0:00. This was his last chance to score some points before the end of this game, and this chance was too good to pass up. He was in the zone, and the score was 159 to 52. A complete wipeout.
But unfortunately, the "fools" that were on his team were too scared by the defenders to make a proper play.
Kagami sighed and, in a flash, snatched the ball from his own teammate and skillfully maneuvered around the defenders for an easy basket. In fact, the basket was too easy. Nobody stepped up to help after he crossed his first defender, in fact, it was almost like they were scared of Kagami.
Kagami smirked despite of himself. He felt like they were supposed to be scared of him, because he was light, and he was power. Shadows always follow the light, and Kagami was like the sun.
The shot clock let out a long, raspy noise this signaling the end of the quarter. Everyone on the court was drenched in sweat, panting from the adrenaline and exhilaration that all seemed to pump through their vessels. And when the buzzer stopped blaring, the only sound you could hear in the entire gym was the ragged sound of panting and occasional sweat drops hitting the ground.
No one moved, and no one said a word. And if you walked in at that very moment, the only thing you could've seen were ajar mouths and astonished faces, not sure whether to be surprised or scared.
It was dead silent.
Kagami didn't notice it. For the only thing that was on his mind at that moment was how he'd never felt more alive. Everything was awake. Every muscle and sinew in his body shivered and rubbed against each other's with un-spent energy. His head throbbed with what seemed like an incoming headache. But he didn't care. His eyes dilated and his mind went blank, he seemed to process everything he saw, but the images that were supposed to come through to his brain were muted. It was magical, and it was something that only the best could see, something that only the best could experience when they pushed in the right direction.
And Aomine saw that.
He himself had been through that moment, as brief as it was, and as he pushed off from his position in the doorway and entered the gym, he felt it too. He felt so alive looking at this red haired, sweaty guy that stood in the middle of the gym looking like he owned the place, looking like he knew where he belonged. A brief moment of confusion crossed Aomine's face as he realized that he'd been making a beeline towards the red-head, blinded by the sun that shone so brightly. He'd never felt this way before, being so close to him, but so far at the sane time. Subconsciously his hand reached out towards Kagami, and when it came just a hair-breadth away from the sweat-soaked face, it stopped. It pulled away.
Aomine sighed and ran a hand through his hair. What was he doing? Acting like a fool in front of all of these people, and him... He had to be reminded of his place, that he and the red head were not on the same level.
And just like that, the trance broke, and the crowd began to murmur again. The red head was also given a start when he looked up and saw a blue-haired guy smiling at him, standing only a couple inches from him. Kagami's heart throbbed without his permission, and his heart whispered ,"if you moved just a little bit, your legs would touch..." And at the thought of that, Kagami froze and shoved the astonished guy away, shaking his head in disbelief. What was this? Some kind of perverted crap he didn't sign up for? This was not good. Every time he was around this... This stranger he would get so weird and shy all of a sudden, a complete opposite of who he really was.
He felt his cheeks flame with embarrassment and moved pass the stranger, shaking his hair out so that it was completely blocking his eyes. He wouldn't let anyone see him like this, and especially not someone he'd just met. Perhaps it was a matter of pride, no. It had to be a matter of pride. He walked with long, anxious strides to the bench, his muscles burning with something that had nothing to do with the workout he'd just put his body through. It was animalistic, and as their arms brushed against each other he knew, for a fact, that he couldn't keep this guy around.
"Okay..." He thought ,"only a few more steps and I'll be at the bench, then I'll grab my stuff and head right out of this suffocating gym then-"
"Hey."
His legs buckled beneath him.
