take me back
to when the grass was green
and the flowers bloomed

take me back to the splashing of the waterway,
and the smell of cookies

how i wish to experience
those days with you once more

before the earth takes you,
and my heart gets ripped from its chamber,

allow me to speak
of all the times
you fixed what was left of me

i never told you this,
but you took me in when i was broken
and you built me back up again

so take me back
to when i scrubbed your pavement
thinking it would make a difference
and you let me believe it did

take me back
to the beautiful flowers in your backyard
that you were oh so proud of

i always knew the stars would take you in
but i never knew it would be this unfair

and yet i must make peace with it,
and continue on if i can,
and be strong for you

and i'll take care of her
and bring her the flowers you loved so much

and i'll think of you every day,
wishing on your star
as the night approaches

and i'll bake your favourite cookies
salted with tears
but sweetened by our memories

and i'll love you
until we meet again
