"Mama"I strangled out hot tears rolling down my cheeks as I stared at my mother on her deathbed."Finney my sweet boy please don't cry" My mother said, running her hand over my cheek.
Gwen snuggled close to our mother nuzzling her face into her chest."Finney I need you to promise me something"My mother whispered softly."Come close" I placed my ear to her lips it tickled a little.
"I need you to promise me that you'll take care of your father and Gwenny for me okay?"She added with a sigh.I pulled my head away.My mother was smiling up at me weakly while having a protective arm wrapped around Gwen who was curled up in a ball.
"Can you do that for me?"She mumbled.I nodded slowly."I promise I'll take care of them"I cried.My mothers heart beat got lower and lower.The noise was something I could barely bear to hear but I did for her.
"I know you will." She grabbed my hand gently squeezing it."You remember how I taught you to braid Gwen's hair?" I nodded.I had braided Gwen's hair this morning putting the ends in two little yellow bows.
"Yes I remember"I whimpered."That's good..real good"My mother shuttered."You two will be okay I know you will cause I will always be with you" I opened my mouth to say something but only a faint whimper escaped my lips.
My mother smiled, kissing Gwen's forehead who had fallen asleep next to her."I love you both so much and don't you forget it"She mumbled.My mother turned to face me again."Oh and one last thing Finney"My eyes widened.
"I'll miss you...I'm sorry"She whispered as life left her eyes.
Waking up in a cold sweat I looked at the clock at 6:35 am.I glanced over at the calendar September 1st.I slowly came to realize that.Today was the first tenth grade.
I was not ready.I laid in bed still as a rock not wanting to move.Suddenly Gwen came rushing into my room."Finney! Wake up"Gwen came over quickly and jumped on me."Come on we got school!"I glanced up at her then quickly laughed."Alright Alright I'm up"I say."Good besides I'm sure you wanna see Robin don't you?"Gwen teased."He's just my friend Gwen"I say.
Gwen got off of me and turned back to look at me "Mhm sure" She then quickly rushed back out of my room.I got off my bed and walked over to my closet and grabbed clothes that seemed appropriate for the first day of school.
After I finished getting dressed and brushed my teeth I walked downstairs to see my dad talking to Gwen.I know my father apologized after I escaped the grabber but I'll still never forgave him and I know Gwen hasn't either.She wasn't daddy's little girl anymore she was more like her own girl.
"Morning Finney"My father says.I smiled and sat down at the breakfast table.At least he wasn't drunk yet.Gwen was behind my dad making toast and cereal.I wasn't really that hungry today probably from the nerves.
"Finney you want any?"Gwen asked me.I shook my head no."You two better hurry up y'all got school and y'all better not be late on y'all's first day"My father stated sternly.I watched as Gwen mocked him when he had his back turned from her.I smiled and picked up my book bag.
Gwen quickly ate her cereal and she took the toast with her and started eating it while we walked to school."You know one day dads gonna catch you mocking him right?"I say glancing over at her.Gwen rolled her eyes.
"I don't care, I really don't. He's an old fart anyways he needs to relax a little bit"I shrugged.''So about you and Robin?''Oh god.
"What about me and him?"Gwen smirked."Y'all totally have a thing for each other I can see it"I looked at her with a confused look."What do you mean?"I didn't have a thing for Robin did I?
"Oh come on the way you act every time he's around and the way he looks at you have you not seen it?"No.
"Me and Robin are just friends, really we are.end of story"Gwen stared at me for a split second then finally spoke."Suit yourself" Me and Gwen finally arrived at the school and Robin and my other friends were waiting for me.
As I walked up to them they stopped talking and all greeted me with a good morning."Morning guys so y'all ready for this day?"I asked."This school makes me wanna kill myself"Billy said.That's an honest reaction Billy."I mean he ain't wrong"Vance added.Bruce whacked him upside the head.
"Ow what was that for"Vance shouted."We don't talk about wanting to kill ourselves"I stopped listening to Vance and Bruce have their couple rant for the 5th time this week and I turned my attention to Robin.
Robin had muscles now and not gonna lie they were really hot.Maybe I do like Robin but I doubt he likes guys I mean he has ladies crawling at his feet but then again I've never seen him with a girl?
So maybe but at the same time no.Billy finally cut the tension between Vance and Bruce."Both of you just shut the fuck up I have an idea for Saturday"Vance and Bruce stopped and turned to Billy.
"I was thinking we all have a sleepover at my place on Saturday my moms gonna be out of town for this weekend so I thought it would be a good idea "Billy suggested."Alright, sounds fun I'm down "Robin says."Same here "Griffin added.
"I'm fine with that as long as we get to spice it up a bit"Vance grinned.Bruce rolled his eyes.Vance was openly gay and he wasn't scared of what people thought of him for it.I admired him for that. I wish I had that kind of courage.
"Bruce you in?"Billy asks.Bruce nodded."How about you Finney?"I glanced up at him they were all staring at me."Yeah I'm down for it I'll tell my dad" Billy smiled."Great so I'll have everything prepared for Saturday" Everyone nodded.
This was gonna be great.
