POWER [ONC 2024]

Author's Note

Alright. Here's my entry for this year's ONC, if I can get it off the ground.

I'm thinking a Badlands/Homelander mashup, maybe with a slight Hunger Games vibe. Yep. I'm going there. Because I can.

Main Prompts:

3. Your greatest fear is monsters in the dark. The last thing you expect is to become the monster in the dark.

95. I will become as monstrous as I must.

67. A promise is a promise. A secret is a secret. They must not tell anybody.

58. In a world where being a bounty hunter is the family business, you're not really keen to be part of it.

Side Prompts I'm going to mess with:

48. The curse of magic is that for every reward there is a great loss. For every spell that goes right, there is something else – in the real, natural world – that goes wrong. Nature loves its balance. ('Magic' being more of a genetic predisposition to 'superhuman power.' And this will be more a, "For every superpower, there is its opposite out there in the world... nature loves its balance" than spell casting.)

55. You're a young royal in disguise who befriends a villager with a scarred face. One day they are arrested for having something you gave them. (I might turn this around and take it from the villager's point of view. We'll see.)

36. "Fairytales are real," and there couldn't be anything worse. (Read: Superheroes are real, and there couldn't be anything worse.)

56. In a world where humans and magical creatures coexist, a detective must solve a murder case that threatens to plunge both communities into war. (Magical creatures=Superhumans.)
