lives changed
"did you get it?" you question the moment he got back in the car. the sound of a plastic bag gave you a sense of hope.
"the last one. we got lucky too, i think the guy behind me was trying to get it." felix tells you, pulling said product out of the plastic bag.
plan b.
when things don't work out the way you originally plan them to. and you could absolutely not get pregnant. the two of you were freshly eighteen, still living with your parents, hadn't even graduated high school yet. it's crazy how one little slip up has the potential to ruin your whole life. but luckily, felix had just bought your ticket out of that.
felix uses his car key to rip open the tough packaging, finally pulling out the pill before handing it to you, along with his water bottle.
"you think it'll work?" felix asks.
"it works for everyone else..." you shrug, swallowing the pill.
"right... we'll be fine." he says, sounding more as if he was trying to convince himself rather than you.
"alright, you've gotta get me home. i'm supposed to go through my college letters with my mom." you tell him, shaking the nerves that littered your body.
"right, i think i got some of those back too." he nods, putting the car in drive.
"i would assume so, we applied to the same ones." you chuckle.
"yeah, i know. sorry i'm just— you know..."
"hey. it's gonna be okay. it was one mistake. this time next year, we'll look back on this and laugh." you reassure him.
"i know, i know. can we just change the subject, so i can stop thinking about it?" he suggests, eyes focusing on the road as he drove you back home.
"which school are you hoping to get into the most?" you ask, having no problem switching the topic.
"seoul school of dance— obviously." he chuckles.
"oh you'll get in no problem." you lightly slap his upper arm. "they'd be stupid to not accept you. perfect grades, letters of recommendation from some of the best dance instructors around. nothing could stop you from getting in." you ramble.
"you really know how to feed my ego. what about you? which school are you most excited for?"
"honestly— any of them. just the thought of going to college is exciting. moving away from home, starting the next chapter. i just can't wait."
"good thing you're valedictorian." he jokes. "perfect one way ticket to pretty much any school you desire." he smiles.
"oh yeah, schools are practically begging me to apply." you tease him.
"one step at a time, we still have to graduate high school." he states.
"that's the easy part. we're practically there already."
"i know right? can you believe it's only three weeks away?" he shakes his head in amusement. "i never believed everyone when they said high school flies by, but it really does."
"me either. it seems like yesterday you were tripping in the freshman hallway-"
"hey, we agreed to not bring that up anymore." he cuts you off, unable to hold in his laughter.
"what? it's a fond memory i'd like to hold onto." you reply smugly, giggling even more as he rolls his eyes.
"yeah, yeah. get out, i'll see you tomorrow in class." he says, putting the car in park, reaching over to unhook your seatbelt.
"don't forget to-"
"throw the trash out at the gas station before i get to my house so my parents don't see it, i know." he finishes the sentence for you.
"alright. i'll see you tomorrow." you smile, leaning over to press a chaste kiss to his cheek. he feigns a groan, pretending to wipe off the spot you had kissed him. "asshole." you chuckle, rolling your eyes.
"bitch." he replies, sending you a warm smile. a stark contrast to his words, but that's just how the two of you were.
"get home safe."
"always do." and with that, you close the door to his car, turning on your heels, happily skipping up to your house. as you close the front door behind you, you hear felix's car drive off, followed by the sound of your mother calling for you.
"i'm coming!" you yell back, sliding off your shoes before heading into the living room, where your mother was sat with a smile on her face, a series of unopened letters in front of her.
"are you ready? i've been waiting for you all day!" she claps excitedly. if you didn't know any better you'd say she was more excited about college than you were. and maybe she was. you chuckle as you sit down next to her, eyes scanning over the letters, each decorated with the signature emblem of each college you had applied to. "nervous? don't be. i know you got in." she reassures, hugging you gently from the side.
"let's start with this one." you first pick up the college that felix had expressed his excitement for. seoul university of dance. your mom watches intently as you open up the letter.
accepted.
"i knew it!" your mom claps happily. "did felix get in too?" she asks.
"i'm not sure yet, he's opening his when he gets home." you tell her.
"oh, well i hope he gets in. this is the one he really liked, right?" you nod in response, reaching for the next letter. another college in seoul, this one specialized in stem. you had really only applied to this one for fun, just to see if you could get in. it was practically the hardest school to get in around here. you wouldn't be upset if this went either way. but as you unfolded, the envelope...
accepted.
"oh my god! i really didn't think i would get into this one!" you clap excitedly, followed by your mother doing the same.
"they'd be stupid to not accept you!" she chuckles. at this point, there were only two letters left. you already had two fantastic schools to choose from, so these last two responses wouldn't really matter to you. but you'd still open them, and to both of them...
accepted.
you had been accepted to each school you applied to, and you couldn't be happier. the future was bright. and on top of that, you had received a text from felix, stating that he got home alright, and...
that he too, got into seoul university of dance.
and everything was looking up.
until it wasn't.
