Time seems to speed by, and soon enough, it's Astra's birthday. It had been a full year since they ran away. Their little apartment has only gotten cozier with a heater, a power generator, and fairy lights on the walls. They'd even gotten their hands on a semi-functional hot plate that Astra had fixed up after reading a book on it. The apartment is home now plain and simple, though it could be better. Sure, the duo has plenty of space, but they're limited to the only undamaged room. If they could save up, then they could start repairs on other rooms.
For that, though, they would need money. More money than Touya's job at the cafe pays him. It's when crime around their rundown building starts to rise that Astra gets an idea, an absolutely insane but simultaneously brilliant idea. Touya had wanted to be a hero, but that was out of the cards. Astra is a borderline genius because of her eidetic memory, so why not put her uncanny wealth of knowledge and his training to use? They might as well since there are no patrols in their area at night. When Astra brings it up, Touya jumps on the chance of using his quirk. They are going to be vigilantes.
Of course, as vigilantes, they need costumes, names, and gear. Touya gets his hands on a couple of books about support gear, which Astra has a blast reading muttering something about heat distribution and thermal signatures. Once the basics are taken care of Touya can't wait to go out he has a com hooked around his ear that uses vibrations so there is no chance of someone overhearing what she says they had decided Astra would stay home because her physical condition isn't the best and feed info through the coms to Touya.
She hops on to the neighboring hotel's WiFi and runs two separate VPN programs to mask where she's coming from, pulling up a security camera feed and looking for any tripped alarms in the radius that she knows is going to be hero-free unless some underground hero decides to include it in their patrol route. It doesn't take long to find a grocery store alarm going off, and Astra decides to direct Touya to it.
"Two streets to your left, on the corner, there's a grocery store that has its alarm going off. The thief has a mutant quirk that looks like some kind of spider; my bet would be on a Tarantula." She pauses to look up Tarantulas on the out-of-date iPad they had gotten for the sole purpose of looking up facts. Scanning an article that looks promising about humane ways of incapacitating the arachnids.
"Don't use too much fire they're susceptible to sudden heat changes but you can use your fire to distract him, also you aren't wearing the gear to lower drawbacks from quirk use so you need to be extra careful. Go for the legs as a weak point, eyes are too painful and should only be used in a pinch." Astra directs and switches feeds to follow the path of the thief directing Touya as needed. When he reaches the thief she gives him a couple of minutes before dropping a tip to the police where a criminal would be that should give him enough time to finish up and get away with how far away the nearest police station is.
Why hello there pleasure to meet you though I'm certain you don't share that appreciation we took care of a thief on REDACTED street for you, you'll be hearing from us quite a bit! - Dabi and Ember <3
Touya ends up breaking one of the guy's legs and manages to get the thief tied up going up to the roof as sirens approach. They try to find whoever had sent the tip but quickly realize that the Vigilantes are long gone. This is going to be yet another headache to add to the pile. They take the villain into custody and Astra lets out a whoop of joy over coms.
"We did it! We are officially Japan's newest vigilante duo! Alright next up is there's a group of drunks harassing a lady just scare them off with a bit of fire then walk her home." Touya laughs as he runs to the location Astra gives him this is way different than training, he feels free as he spots the alleyway his sister was talking about shooting off a tiny bit of fire to scare the men before offering the woman his hand.
