Drawing A Snake & Adding Feet.

I am a picture on a wall of which you do not see

I am the figure in the back of your mind that tells you what to read

I am your friend

And sometimes your enemy

I pick all your boyfriends

And figure out what clothing you ought to wear to be pleasing to them on the surface

I am the distortion of the image that God holds for you in His mind

I am not picture-perfect but with pride and time,

I can make you think you are.

When your dreams feel out of reach

I make them feel even further

And when you cannot speak

I make you believe that you really could, you're just not cut out for it

You second guess yourself because of me

I envelop your very being at times

I fill every room with my presence until it too reeks of everything but divine inspiration for you

You cannot see me

But if I gave you an inch

You would run yourself into a tree

So alas

Maybe you need me

If I let you fly

Will you really feel free?

Or will you continue to be the sad poor human I know you to be.
