The next day when I waltzed through the school doors I was met by the sight of my two best friends, Winn and Kelsie leaning against my locker flirting and chatting which managed an eye roll out of me.
"You two are sickeningly sweet." I said sliding passed them to get to my locker.
"Was that a backhanded compliment?" Winn smirked, his brown eyes glinting with playfulness.
"No." I defended a smile fighting against my lips.
Winn just shook his head at me with a smile while Kelsie asked, "How was your weekend? I know you said you were fine but...."
I winced slightly. I had almost forgotten about my mental breakdown I had with her on saturday about, yup you guessed it, Cade. But all was fine now.
"I'm good, perfect actually." I said maybe a bit too giddily by the way they looked at me. And before I could say anything Winn said, "What did you do."
My jaw slacked slightly, "Why was that your first idea?" I huffed, "And nothing."
"Ayla, your lips only do that weird thing when you've done something that you're proud of."
"Smile?" I said as my brows knit together.
"No," Kelsie jumped in, "Well yes, but no. It's like.....I don't know, but it's a look you know?"
"No." I deadpan, "I don't know."
"Ok well it's a thing," she crossed her arms over her chest as she pouted her lip out, Winn pulling her into his embrace, his arm going around her shoulders.
I rolled my eyes, a grin playing at my lips again, "I'm sure it is, now I really must get to class, so bye!" I said before slamming my locker shut and walking off leaving them alone with their chuckles and their flirtatious grins. Ew.
As I walk through the hall to my math class I silently search the halls to see if I could catch sight of Iris, but I don't. I wonder if maybe she wasn't here and that she wouldn't meet up with me but those thoughts were interrupted when my gaze met the stunning doe eyes of Sage Booker. An 11th grader, too smart for herself and joined my class, is it sad for me? Absolutely.
She's also the twin sister to Emersen Booker. Both dated Cade back in the day, both got hurt. Rumor has it the two sisters barely speak anymore, but what's a rumor got against the truth?
Though I don't exactly know the truth so maybe I shouldn't be quick to defend them, either way though I'll be 'working' with them both.
I give her a quick smile but she doesn't return it. Instead she scans my every move. Her eyes never leave my movement, not even through the class. I swear while she glided her hand across her paper her eyes were still on me. Was it disturbing? Yes. Could it help me with the plan? Also yes.
So instead of flipping her off like I would usually do I smirk at her and begin scribbling on my 'math notes' what I could use that ability-shall we say- for. She could easily take notes on Cade's behavior, that would be the simplest use for her. Especially because it was quite obvious she was Cade's least favorite.
I know that's harsh but it's true. She was.
Emersen was his before Sage was. So when he took Sage it was really out of petty, wanting to hurt Emersen even more because she hadn't seemed THAT fazed before. Though she was, she hid it, except when he started going around with tag-along Sage booker who wanted nothing more than to make him smile.
They were only 9th graders......

School was awful. As always, but today it felt as though it may have been the longest day of all. But perhaps that was because I wanted something at the end of the day. Which did eventually come, after 8 long excruciating hours.
