My house wasn't big, but at least i had a house. My life was simple back then, no responsibilities, no worries, no trauma, I was happy. Me and my siblings would play out in the woods everyday. It was fun. We played in the river, climbed small hills, and ran through valleys and had a great time with each other. Imaginary worlds was where we lived a good chunk of the time. We rarely fought, I would say we were pretty well mannered kids. My younger sister, Mai, was 3 years younger than me at 7 years old. My elder brother, was only 1 year older than me, at age 11. So that made me 10 at the time. My mother was a kind and compassionate person, always looking out for others all the time. My father was a good man, he provided what he could for his family and was always happy to see us, even if he was dead tired. He worked in the village as a shop employee and would come home right before dusk. It normally took him a while to get home since we were so far off into the woods. I still remember my siblings, my mother, and I playing outside at the end of the day waiting for my father to come home. Every day was pretty much the same for us, but we were happy, and that's all that mattered.

I have faint memories of the days going by and how they would start and end. How the sun would touch our small house right before it would set, giving off a yellow glow, and how the birds chirped the loudest when the sun was in the middle of the sky. It felt like yesterday, yet so long ago. Y'know how i feel.

"y/n! y/n!" Mai said as she tried to shake y/n awake.

"mai, go back to sleep, it's still early"  Y/n said in a sleepy voice with her eyes closed still.

"it's not that early! the sun is up already"   she told her in a sleepy voice while trying to convince y/n to wake up now.

"it doesn't mean we have to get up. quiet down, mother is still sleeping"  y/n added as she turned around in her futon from Mai, trying to get her to stop.

"let's go outside to the woods, let's see if the hut we made is still up! come on y/n!" The previous day, Mai, y/n and Koi were playing in the woods and made a mini hut out of sticks. It could only fit one person but it was good enough for them.

"you know we can't go outside until mother is awake"  y/n was slightly awake now from all Mai's  talking

"i can wake mother up then"   Mai said that as if that was some great idea no one has thought of before

"that's rude, you shouldn't wake someone up in there sleep unless it's an emergency, y'know that already" y/n turned to Mai now, who looked slightly disappointed by y/n's response

"come one y/n, don't be like that."  Mai said in a disappointed tone

y/n sat up and faced mai now

"see, i woke you up and your fine!"  Mai said trying to prove a point before y/n could get a chance to talk

"well actually i'm still tired, and i can't go back to sleep now, now we just have to wait for mother and Koi to wake up"  y/n answered in a slightly annoyed tone, barely noticeable

"sorry" she looked down hands and fidgeted with the blankets as she said this

"it's ok, mai" she said kindly

"quiet down over there, i'm trying to sleep" a sleepy koi said as he turned around to tell them "if your going to be so loud, don't be right next to us"

Their beds were arranged in a line across the bedroom floor. It went from mother, koi, y/n, and Mai. Mai would usually wake up first and end up waking everyone else up with her.

Time skip....after they all woke up....

Mother had been woken up by all the kids noise, so she decided to get up, it was later now anyway. They got up and settled and went to the kitchen to make breakfast. Father had left early that morning so he could get to work on time since the village was a good distance away from their house. They were heading to the kitchen to make breakfast now.

"mother! mother! can we make American breakfast today? I saw it in the village the other day!"  Mai said in a cheerful voice

"yes, dear, we can have American breakfast today" Mothers voice was calm and soothing, like the gentle sun in the morning

"yay! did you hear that y/n? mother said we could have American breakfast!"

"ok ok, i heard, mai"  y/n said laughing a bit

Mother made some pancakes for breakfast that morning. Y/n and her siblings went outside to play for a bit while mother was making the pancakes. Mai really wanted to see if the hut they made was still up so that's where they went. Y/n, Koi and Mai skipped down the path through the woods, and to the place they normally play. The place where they played most of the time was a little circle of trees; it wasn't a perfect circle but it was good enough. It wasn't  far off in the woods either, probably a 3 minute walk. Around the side of a tree in the circle, there was the hut they made the previous day. Some of the sticks had fallen but it was still standing.

Mai ran over to the hut "look! look! it's still up!" she said excitedly. She started to crawl into the hut.

"don't get your self dirty" Koi said as he crouched down to see her inside the hunt. "mother wouldn't like if you dirtied your clothes"

"that's what the wash is for!" Mai said jokingly as she started to crawl out

Y/n laughed a bit at the situation between Mai and Koi

"she does have a point" Y/n said as she walked closer to them. Koi looked at y/n

"i guess your right"

They all had a happy aura. About 15 minutes later of playing in the woods, the decided to head back their house, as there mother should be done cooking by now. Before they left, Mai and y/n fixed the hut by putting some more sticks on it. They walked down the long path in the woods, all the way back to their home. Once they got a certain distance away, they could smell there mothers cooking and started to run.

"Race you there!" Koi said as he started to run towards the house

"hey! you got a head start! that's not fair!"  y/n said as she started to run towards the house alongside Mai. They ran through the forest as the morning sun gazed on them and showered the trees and plants with sunlight. Birds started to chirp as the day became, and the animals were coming out from their homes. Everything seemed so perfect....
