“Look! I get it dude I really do!” Halio threw up his hands in defense. He was backed into the corner as Lou stood uncomfortably close. “But the little shit just showed up on my door and he has brain damage! I couldn't not help!”
This made Lou even more angry.
“I don't care, Halio. You owe us 200 thousand and I expected you to get it to us before the end of the month considering you're a fucking and doctor and you live alone.” Lou spat bitterly. “But now you bring in this little shit. We didn't give you this house for you to trash it and get a brain-damaged roommate without telling anybody.”
Halio went to speak, but Lou grabbed him by the collar and yanked him forward.
“Get rid of the kid or teach him how to shoot, because we will come back here on the 31st. Got it?” He shoved him back into the corner and backed up, waiting for confirmation.
A little shaken up, Halio kept trying to reason with the man.
“Lou…Lou, dear, you have to acknowledge the fact that this kid is a blank slate for us to teach anything to!! I already taught him how to kill people!” He grinned, trying to be convincing. “He might be a little dull but you gotta believe me! I can't get the cops involved or he'll get taken away from me and you'll lose your golden opportunity!”
Lou thought about it, glancing away from Halio's sharp gaze.
“That's a good point…” he muttered. “But he doesn't even know how to shoot a gun.”
“With his capabilities, he doesn't need to! He ripped apart a tactical dummy last week!!”
“The cardboard ones?”
“The rubber ones!”
“I don't believe you.” He looked astonished. “Cut the crap and get the damn money. If you don't have it then we're killing you and that twerp.” He spoke through gritted teeth, convinced Halio was lying.
“Lou I'm not lying! When's the last time I lied?” Halio smiled again, he wasn't very convincing.
“When you texted me and said you were gonna follow the fucking rules” Lou was quick to disprove any points Halio made.
Halio was stuck.
“Fuck…” he mumbled under his breath. “But-”
He was snatched up by the shirt again, Lou held a massive hand over his mouth.
“Cut. The. Shit.” He said, his voice low. “Me and my family took you in to be nice. You're wearing the clothes that we gave you. You're standing on the floors that we bought you. See that roof over your head!? Ours.”
Halio slowly realized there was no getting out of this, he had a burning sensation of guilt and fear as Lou continued.
“You came to us when you were in debt and we agreed to help you if you paid us back. You knew our rules and how we work, so why are you fucking arguing?”
“Lou please-” Halios voice was shaky and muffled against Lou's palm.
Shut up.” He spat, his breath smelled like cigarettes and whiskey, a shitty combination for a con-man.
“We're family… r-right??” Halio begged. “That's what you told me in grade school… you wouldn't lie, right?”
“No. My family doesn't push deadlines the way you do. My family knows when they're screwed.” He let go of Halio's face and a sigh of relief could be heard. “You're a lowlife bitch who can't get it together because you're bad with money, but at least you have a doctorate since that's all you love in this world.” He put his hand near his hip where a gun lay in waiting, snug in the holster. “I outta put a bullet in your throat for even comparing the two, but I'm nicer than your psycho ass.”
Halio didn't speak another word as Lou stood back, leaving without another word.
Lou shoved past Mireo and left out the front door, slamming it shut. They both could hear his car start noisily and the sound of the gravel driveway crunch underneath his truck as he left the property.
Halio listened to him leave, still kind of stuck in the corner and breathing heavily after that dose of pure fear.
Mireo looked inside the room and stepped past the doorway, his hands folded in worry.
“Halio?” He asked softly. “Are you okay?”
Halio took a minute to respond but nodded slowly.
“Yeah.. I'm fine, Mir.” He faked a small smile as Mireo walked over.
“It doesn't look like it.” Mireo observed.
“Yeah. It's been a long day..” Halio took a couple deep breaths. Mireo noticed this and simply wrapped the man up in a hug.
“I hope you feel better.” He said shortly. Halio was surprised by the hug but didn't object, knowing Mireo was just trying his best to help.
As he hugged him back, he had to think.
What the hell am I gonna do
Soon… he looked at Mireos face and realized something..
Thus,
A plan.
