(Back to Mireos perspective)
“So,” Halio began. “you remember the plan?”
He handed me the green duffle bag, and I took it warily.
“Yeah…” I mumbled, testing the weight of the bag. “I just don't understand why I have to do this. I mean he seemed nice, it's kinda mean…”
“No, no. He's not a nice person!” Halio put his hands up. “He's just like the police, he wouldn't understand you so he'd try to hurt you!”
“Oh…” I mumble, I get it now. But still, this seemed a tiny bit drastic.
“Okay, so you do remember the plan, right?” He asked cautiously, he inspected my face to tell if I was lying.
“Yeah yeah.” I was irritated he didn't trust me
It’s not like I'm not trustworthy…
Right?
Of course not.
“Alright…” His worry faded as he drifted away in thought, he seemed to be going through an imaginary checklist. Eventually he sighed in exasperation and nodded at me.
It was strange how he never seemed to trust me, I could handle my own self. I'm not crazy.
His voice came back to me, “There's now to the plan,” he began. “I want you to stay out of sight afterwards, at all costs. Text me… you remember how, I told you… and tell me where you are.”
I nod slowly, I barely understood but it was better for me to pretend to.
“So I look at those big green signs and…” I trail off.
“You text what the words say.” He instructed, patting my shoulder. The touch sent a feeling of comfort and warmth through my heart.
Oh. This isn't as bad as I thought.
It'll all be fine
Right! He sent me on my way with strict, written directions on where to go.
‘Don't talk to strangers!’
‘Never pass in front of moving vehicles unless you and the driver make eye contact and they nod.’
‘Turn left at Biah’s Bakery!’
That bakery smells nice…
No! Quit it!!
I'm here to do a job within 5 hours. Time flies fast and I need to stay focused.
Distractions were everywhere… I had been outside before but never alone or on my own, but Halio told me that I'll be fine if I follow the directions strictly. I want to imagine my map as my little companion, it's spiraling roads and winding paths forming a little face to tell me where to go!
That would be really cute!
Shit. Think!!
I cleared my head and continued walking, the weight of the bag was starting to weigh me down a bit. I switched hands and gazed at my map, it was kinda confusing but I tried my best to follow the path.
I looked around at my surroundings and saw many people, a lot of them were staring at me.. none of them looked anything like me…
Why don't they have white hair too?
I guess I'll just ignore it..
I kept walking and thinking about the job.
I hope Halio is proud of me afterwards.
He gave me this job and said that he ‘needs this job done quickly because this guy has been bothering him for months’ but I don't know what he means. He sounds fine to me! But killing people isn't hard, so I'll do the job anyway.
Let's get this over with.
