Prologue

Sage's POV**

"Im home! And I brought snacks!" My dad yells coming in through the front door. It is Wednesday night, which is family fun night in the Carter household. "YAY! dad's home, mom!" I holler to my mother who is currently in the living room. I jump into his arms as he scoops me up into a bear hug.

My dad places the bags in the kitchen and my mom runs out of the living room, tackling my dad with hugs and kisses. It's obvious to anyone how much they feel for one another. I'm happy my parents love each other because you don't see true love very often anymore. They've been together since high school and they were truly inspiring. My moms arms wrap around my dads neck and his arms wrap around her waist. For a moment they stand and just stare into each other's eyes.

"So, what's happening tonight?" Asks dad.

"TONIGHT'S MOVIE NIGHT!!" my mom and I scream.

"We're having a Disney animated movie marathon tonight dad. We have to watch as many movies as possible tonight without falling asleep!" I exclaim.

"Well what are we waiting for?" He asks.

"I'll get the food, Sage you get the blankets and pillows" mom commanded. I run upstairs grabbing an armful of blankets and a ton of pillows and throw them down the steps .

"We should build a fort" says dad.

"Dad I'm fifteen, don't you think I'm too old for building forts?"
I giggle at his mock horrified expression as he tells me "no one is too old for forts".

"We're eating burgers with fries for dinner and I put the snacks on the coffee table already." Dad and I both nod.

"What should we watch first? It's already 7:00" Mom asked us. We had an entire collection of every disney animated movie in ABC order.

"How about instead of starting from the beginning, we mix it up and choose randomly?" I reply, and they both agree.

We start with lion king and dad chooses the karaoke version.
After sitting through both Lion King's, we finish dinner and start munching our way through the snacks. After Finding Nemo, and Aladdin, it is 4:00 in the morning and my eyes start getting heavy and soon I drift off to sleep.
My eyes shoot open when I hear a rapping noise on the front door. It sounded like claws scratching and I hear low growls, causing an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. I look over at mom and dad who look at me with fear in their eyes.

"Sage honey I'm gonna need you to go upstairs into the attic okay?" Mom says to me with tears brimming her eyes.

"But why? What's happening?" I say panicking.

"Ladybug, you're gonna have to be strong for mommy and daddy okay?" Dad says rubbing my hand. The rapping on the door becomes more frequent and the growls get louder.

"Okay sweetie now I'm gonna need you to go upstairs." Mom says, tears spilling down both her and dad's faces.

"We love you ladybug, always remember that alright?" Dad speaks quietly, both parents hugging and kissing me.

"Just remember you're special Sage. You have so much more potential than you may believe. It's you who can make the impossible, possible Ladybug I love you so much" my mom says pushing me towards the staircase.

"A close friend of ours will come to get you soon okay? She will knock on the door three times and you will live with her. I'm gonna need you to run upstairs now honey."

"We love you Ladybug". They say simultaneously.

" love you guys too" I said with a grimace hugging both of them. I look into both sets of eyes with a small smile on my lips, and squeezed their hands before quickly before trotting up the stairs. I look back to see them hug and kiss each other before the door bursted open. As I ran up the stairs I hear glass breaking and lots of growls, I didn't dare look back again as I lock myself in the attic, I curl in the corner underneath a heap of sheets and lay there with tears streaming down my face.
