"Hey.." Papillon muttered to Sheriff Labrador one day as they sat on the rooftop of a skyscraper. The sun was just starting to sink with beautiful sunset colours mixing around it. Dobie sat not far from his friends, snacking on popcorn and smirking at their situation. Papillon blushed a red as deep as the evening sky.
"Yes?" the sheriff smiled at her, his face sort of a light pink aswell.
"I have to tell you something, sheriff."
Sheriff Labrador softened his smile and eased his head to the side a bit.
"I..." Papillon looked anxiously at Dobie, who put a thumbs up. She knew it was going to be awkward. She just knew it.
"Would you like to tell me something?" Sheriff Labrador asked in a gentle tone, his ear twitching every now and then. Papillon edged her face closer to his, her eyes staring off into the abyss, her cheeks flushed. They just sat like that for a few moments, Sheriff Labrador waited patiently for Papillon to speak. Dobie, being the particulary annoying third wheel, was tired of waiting. Without warning or hesitation, he pushed Papillon into the unsuspecting sheriff. The heavens shone upon them as their lips touched in a sweet, sudden kiss. The air swished and swirled smoothly around them, the tension of the situation raising and lowering like a chart out of control. Sheriff Labrador pulled away after a few seconds, clearly taken aback and flustered at the same time.
"What... was that?" he asked again, his face comepletely red now.
"I.. I like you, sheriff" Papillon replied shyly.
Silence.
And more silence.
The sheriff never expected this from his loyal colleage. He had always liked her more than a friend aswell, but he never expected the same feelings being gifted back towards him.
"I feel the same way" he whispered rather shyly. Papillon gasped, her mouth agape and curved in a wide smile. She swiftly pulled into a tight hug and didn't want to let go. Dobie watched in absolute anticipation, excited that two of his friends are now together. Suddenly, a series of whoops, cheers and clapping came from outside the bottom of the building. To his surprise, Sheriff Labrador looked down to see a huge audience, nearly the whole town, yelling and chanting down below.
"What's all this?" Papillon also noticed the commotion as the broke the hug.
"Ah, so you finally saw them!" Dobie said cheekily. "I have arranged all of the townspeople to come and watch the magical moment of yours!"
"You what?" The blushing duo became even redder and the crowd continue to chant their names.
"I did. From us sitting on this very building, all towards the point where I have invited everyone here! See, look, they're rooting for you!"
Papillon became a deep red.
"So you're saying they saw everything that happened just now?"
"Exactly!"
"Dobie!" she yelled. "You son of a-!" Sheriff Labrador quickly covered her mouth.
"If you were about to swear just now, I'm not letting you," he said with a teasing smile, and he pulled in for another hug, since kisses weren't really his thing yet. Papillon didn't mind, but she remembered to note this down in her mental and physical diary. Whenever she was on a mission, asleep, in a different place or even old age, she swore she would never forget this beautiful moment. And who knows what adventures they would travel on next? Maybe a trip to Hawaii, or ice skating in Alaska?
"What do you want to do first?" Sheriff Labrador asked excitedly, looking deep into her eyes.
"Go on a keen journey with you," she replied. And that did it. That did exactly it.

End.
