"Please! Unhand me now, or you shall face the dire consequences of the court!" A loud voice cried out. Rattling the bars of the cage from which she was trapped, the woman pleaded. "You must understand! I am doing no harm. Nor have I ever been planning to!" The honesty in her voice was enough to make the cage handlers falter.
The angels holding her captive glanced at each other nervously. Despite their hesitance, they continued to fly to the High Court.
The woman's heart pounded. She sat, betrayed, as the ones she thought to be family carried her to her trial. The enchanted chains tied around her bodice suddenly began to feel much heavier than before. "They deserve a chance just as much as the rest of us..." She was given no response.
The doors to the enormous church opened, the choir's song greeting the arriving faces. Had it been any other occasion, (Y/N) would have reveled in the beauty of the hymn. It's truly a shame, that the day could not be as perfect as the harmony that rang through the chapel's interior. She lung her hands loosely around the cage's bars.
"Welcome, Seraph (Y/N)." The (H/C) sensed over a hundred poignant stares wash over her in an instant. She couldn't bear to look at anyone in the eyes. Especially not...
"...Sera." She mumbled meekly, glaring through her eyelashes at her elder sister. A guilt, one that went unwarranted, drowned her. She knew she hadn't done anything morally wrong. Yet, the air inside the church (which now seemed to appear as more of a courthouse than anything), was so thick—she felt suffocated. I mean, how could she not feel bad? It's her fault for this entire thing to be brought upon...even, if really, it was for a good cause. Her head hung low.
Sera's eyes looked down upon her pitifully.
She sighed. "(Y/N), you are brought here today for trial. You have overstepped your bounds," Her words echoed clearly throughout the silent room. "Rather than oversee the prosperity of Heaven, you left your duties as High Priestess unattended. You have been prying into matters you weren't, and shouldn't, be involved in."
For the first time since being caged, (Y/N) shot up from her tied position, straining her neck upwards to face her elder. "You're wrong!" She roared. The clergy gasped, though she paid them no mind as her feather-covered gaze challenged Sera's, "As the High Priestess, it is my honor and my duty to keep the balance between light and dark; good AND evil!"
Sera's face dropped dispiritedly. "Seraph (Y/N), I hold great respect for you. But I can not help but question your methods," She got up from her balcony, flying down to face the woman face-to-face. "How is it, that bringing sinners onto the holy grounds of Heaven, keeps the balance between the duality of the two realms?"
Gasps and murmurs immediately sprung about. Angels of the court whispered amongst themselves, horrified at the mere notion of sharing the holy land with demons. Some stared at her in distaste, while others avoided looking at her entirely.
(Y/N) felt her eyes widen. "What? No. You do not understand--," Her thoughts became frantic. "You do not have the full story. Where did you get this information from?" She inquired worriedly.
"Me, Sweet Cheeks!"
Adam cackled as he appeared from what seemed to be nowhere. His mask adorned a toothy grin. "I saw ya peepin' around, like a fu..." Sera glared at him. "...freakin' weirdo." (Y/N) became increasingly startled at the fact that it was Adam who tattled. The two of them didn't exactly have a great history.
She knew he had been waiting for her downfall, and catching her probably had to be the best thing that could have ever happened to him.
He picked at something in his teeth. "Uh-huh. Yeah, so anyway. As the leader of the exorcists, you know, the ones that kill the bad people you're trying to save? I thought it was hella suspicious you were plotting against Heaven and trying to get those mother-effers up here."
