I sat there on the plane, listening to my music I downloaded a few hours ago. But I wasn't really listening.. You ever get that weird sensation where you hear everything, understand everything, do what you need to do...but you aren't there. It's like you are in a weird dream. Everyone acknowledges you, you talk to them..but you aren't even there. That's what was happening to me. My grandma was talking, I was nodding, but for the life of me I couldn't remember what she was saying.
A loud ding came over the microphone, and my stomach got all hot. The plane dipped down along with my stomach. My heart seemed to stop, along with my senses. And my eyes seemed to close along with my ears. My fists clenched in my sweatshirt and started sweating. 'This is just way too real.' The plane slowly skidded to a stop. Everybody got really loud and started standing up. I for one could not manage to unbuckle myself. I stood up grabbed my stuff. And just like that, I was walking out of the terminal. I walked in a daze to the luggage spinner. I spotted my pink zebra suitcase almost immediatley and grabbed it. My little Vera Bradley backpack was on my shoulders loosely, but i felt like I was being choked.
"You okay Leigh?" She asked. She must have realized the weird vibe I was putting off."I'm really tired." I smiled esitantly and kept walking. We quickly stopped at one of the vendor carts and grabbed a water. For a moment I forgot, but it all came rushing back to me. This is legit. This is happening. We walked and walked until we saw seats, and we sat. My grandma was fumbling with her phone trying to call Michelle, while I sat, wide eyed and scared. I am 14, he is 16. I am a freak who lives in New Jersey, he is my idol who is absolutley gorgeous. I assured myslef that I would end up dying sooner or later.
On my phone texting Sam, out of the corner of my eye I saw a tall blonde guy, lots of tattoos, sitting on the ground. In the middle of an airport. I turned my head and looked. I recognized the body, the hair, the tattoos. I couldn't see his face but that sure as hell didn't matter. It was Dave. Where there's a Dave, there's an Austin. I didn't mention anything to my grandma, just sat and continued texting Sam. Our plans were perfect. We might see a movie or two, definitley go shopping, and of course, catch up. I missed my best friend so much and was so excited to reunite with her. A small smile crept onto my face unknowingly.
Meanwhile, my grandma stood there pushing her phone until she got a dial tone. She managed to put in Michelle's number, and it started ringing. Oh dear. "Oh hi Michelle!...Yah we are here!!..I know, I'm so excited!...We are sitting by some windows...Ok!" and she hung up. I saw the familiar blonde haired figure stand, turn my direction, and walk. Next to him was a nice looking lady, and next to her was a brunette boy.
I stared at my phone, trying not to smile. My grandma was looking out the window, as if maybe they would fly in on their unicorn and crash through the glass. Uh..no. I stared at my phone, listening to the steps of three people I never thought I would meet. Then they stopped. Although I did her heels step past me, and the smell of perfume.
Do not look up. Do not look up.
Michelle started talking to my grandma, and on the other side of me, Austin was talking to Dave.
Do not look up. Do not look up.
Soon enough Michelle turned to me and smiled. Dammit. I've been spotted.
"Hi there." She said. She came towards me and I stood up. "I'm Michelle, thats Dave, and that's my son, Austin." I turned to look at the two she was pointing at. AUstin looked at me and smiled. Dave also looked at me and gave me a slight head nod.
Do not screw this up.
