Everything was the same for a LONG time. I would always glance at him but I wouldn't get that feeling of butterflies. That was until November 27, 2023 when my 8th grade class went to caritas that something changed.
On the second night and day there was a gas leak in my cabin. Of course it had to be my cabin, the bad things always happen to me. Everyone in the cabin got headaches and it was just awful. We were able to get out of hikes and other activities for that day but we soon resumed then the next. My hiking group went on our hike that always takes place in the morning and finished it after a few hours. Sometime after the hike we had the choice to do some activities. I wasn't really paying much attention because I already knew I was going to do art of something of that nature. But I was paying attention to something, or should I say someone. I was staring directly at him, he saw me but I didn't care. I needed to see him. He started to move around but my eyes were locked onto him. I remember he whispered something into one of his friend's ears and I was pretty sure it was about me. Even though I knew it wasn't anything good he was still talking about me.
That night I sat up on my bunk and got all of my friend's attention. I told them about how I didn't get butterflies for a while when I should have. I told them that when I thought of him right before I spoke up, I got butterflies. The feeling was back and I was ecstatic. Another day he was wearing all green, and it was my favorite shade of green. Maybe he knew and bought those things in that specific color for me... no... I knew there was no way in hell that could ever be a possibility.
On the last night we had this little goodbye ceremony where everybody had to share something with everybody else. After that part we started a 'game' where we would tap someone's shoulder if that prompt applied to them. All the people sitting in chairs were blindfolded while there were a few walking around at a time without a blindfold. When it came down to the third to last round it was finally my turn. Once all the prompts were finished we had to find a seat that we had not sat in before. Lucky for me, the only chair near me was in the 'boys section'. Once everyone was settled the councilors selected a few people who haven't gone yet. They did their tapping when it finally came time for them to sit down. The seat next to me was open and it was pretty early after the councilor had told them to find a seat that the seat next to me was taken by someone. I immediately saw the checkered pajama pants and the backpack that was placed next to him, and knew who it was. It was him! Did he choose to sit there? Or maybe it was the closest chair to him. Yeah that's probably it, he would never make it a point to sit next to me... right? What am I thinking? It's just a seat it's not that big of a deal! But why did he sit here... why next to me? Why me?
