Jiwon liked to think things lasted forever.

But as an idol, one had to be naïve to think that it was true. Fame was volatile, and just one mistake could topple all she'd built for herself over the past few years.

After years of painstakingly cultivating her image, Jiwon should know that belief in any type of fantastical notion was foolish.

Yet Jiwon wanted to believe in forever, because it'd been the only thing that kept her sane in this industry.

But today, forever was expected to never be a concept, yet it burned at the back of her throat.

The last day of We Got Married.

She entered the backstage area, fixing her makeup as she gave herself the last of her pep talk. The hair stylist gave her a sad smile, and Jiwon tried her best to grin back, but it stretched across her face painfully.

"No crying." She whispered to herself, already overwhelmed by the desolation on set — but who was she kidding — she probably was going to.

A year. A full blown year of pretending to date someone, to be enamored with someone, to be married to someone, and it manifested into something real. Tangible. If she touched the air between them, all she felt was the buzz of electricity. If she looked at him for longer than a second, she felt her walls crashing down, and the need to continue memorizing all his lines and angles painful.

It wasn't how it was supposed to go.

All Jiwon had to do was act her part, but he was too charming, too caring, and too loving that she had lost.

She liked him.

Too much.

She looked up from the stylist and locked eyes with him, a mutual understanding passing them as he gave her a tiny wave.

A burning started at the back of her nose, and she blinked hastily. Jiwon wouldn't be able to do this anymore — wave at him... look at him. This was the last time she could do it without scrutiny from the netizens, and she wanted to drink it all in — fill herself with only him.

"On set in five minutes." The producer called out, and Jongseong disappeared behind the curtain, giving her a second to regain her bearings.

Her phone beeped, and she looked down at Yujin's message, telling her that it'd all be okay.

That it'd be over.

Jiwon hated it, so she left her on read, and got herself mentally prepared.

No more crying.

———

Jiwon managed the first twenty minutes well. It was always easier this way — when they were a twinge awkward because she always had to adjust to the cameras — and those twenty minutes were a blessing for the first time.
