He was greeted with an uncanny smile. His mother's eyes are protruding from their sockets. Others say she looks like Barbie, he thinks she looks like a skeleton wearing skin that's too big for it.
"Welcome home honey."
Her voice hurts his ears more than a banshee scream.
"Dinner will be ready as soon as your father's home."
He'd rather listen to nails running along a blackboard with knives and forks rubbing together in the background. He ignores her and walks on.
"GET BACK HERE!"
Her long nails and boney fingers dig into his shoulder. The cold feeling chills him to the bone. There's nothing warm about her, there never had been.
