3. Tap Twice

I park my truck and grab my hat before hopping out and heading to my truck bed. I pop the door and climb up into it to roll out the barrel. Once that's secure on a dolly I grab my cooler full of cold drinks and wheel that and the barrel over to the stand I'm normally set up at every year.

"Hey y/n!" Martha, the woman who runs this Farm Fair greets me in stride. She's a tall blonde with wide hips and a skinny torso. We may or may not have had a few drunken nights where we hooked up but that was years ago and she's engaged to a dude now.

"Hey Martha, how's Dan?" I ask.

"Probably already drinking with Ed and the guys." She laughs and rolls her eyes. "You're at the same booth, Jerry dropped off the buckets of apples earlier." She tells me like I didn't know.

"Yeah, thank you." I tell her politely.

"Also." The tone in her voice makes me stop walking. "There's a very pretty blonde waiting for you there. She got here a few minutes ago and looked kind of lost and I shouldn't have been surprised when a pretty lady comes looking for you but I thought I'd warn you in case she was a crazy ex." Martha tells me.

"Oh wow she's here already...wait you..you don't know her?" I ask.

"Know her? Should I? I know everyone in town and I haven't seen her. She does have big sunglasses and a baseball cap on though so it's hard to get a good read." Martha says in a questioning tone.

"That's for another time Martha. I'll see you when you come around for collection." I say and speed off to find my booth.

Scarlett is actually here!? That's so crazy to me because I totally didn't expect her to show up early, let alone at all. People say things all the time it doesn't mean they mean it. I'm not sure if she's an exception or just had nothing better to do in this boring town on a day off.

I approach the booth and see Scarlett hanging...lights? Where did she get those?

"Hey." I say and plop my cooler inside the booth and leave the barrel by the empty buckets of apples.

"Hi!" She says cheerfully and finishes what she's doing before stepping down off the stool and over to me.

She wraps me into a hug that shocked me but I quickly melted into it. God she smells amazing.

"I hope you don't mind, I kind of went down a rabbit hole last night about this fair and I noticed how there were no lights on the booths in photos, so I grabbed some one my way here." She tells me.

The closest store to here is atleast 15 miles out of the way. She went all that way for some plug in lights? How cute.

"That's actually a great idea. It'll really give a nice vibe once the sun starts to set."

"My thoughts exactly." She smiles at me.

The beginning of the fair is really slow. The rides don't open right away and neither does the food. We have a couple young kids try to Bob for apples which is hilarious but it's just a little teaser of what's to come. I'm sure to warn Scarlett about that and let her know if it becomes too much or there's too much attention on her she can hide in the trailers where they count money.

Scarlett is a people's person. She's great with a crowd and really knows how to hype them up. It's actually relieving to see as I wasn't sure how she would react once she got recognized but she wore that actress on proud on her chest and made sure she took a picture with any kid that asked.

"How ya doin?" I ask Scarlett while handing her a water bottle as we've slowed down for a minute.

"This is so much fun." She laughs and drinks the water. A drop dribbles down her chin and watch as it slides down her neck and into the crevice of her boobs. I wonder how long and how many water bottles it would take till her white t-shirt is completely see-oh my god stop.
