6.- A date?

The next day, I wake up earlier than normal to do my farm chores before work. Usually Jerry will do it but there's a lot of harvesting to do on the apple trees so I don't mind helping out. I'm up anyway, right? As I finish collecting eggs I move over to my cow pen.

My girl, Betsy, is pregnant with her first calf. Thats the only way she would be able to produce milk. Luckily she's pregnant about the same time as human, nine months, and she will be able to produce milk for around 10-12 months after giving birth as well so my supply will be fully stocked for a couple years until she bears a calf again.

"Hey girl, how you doing?" I cautiously approach her after entering the pen. She's just chewing on some grass, she looks up at the sound of my voices gives me an un-amused moo and goes back to eating the grass.

"I hear ya. How the little one doing? Bothering you?" I ask her again, as if she can answer me.

I pat her belly, and she moos at me, but it's a different kind of moo. It's not a normal, mundane moo, it's almost as if she's aggravated.  I walk around her to the other side, observing her. I don't see any twigs stuck to her or bugs or animal bites. I pat her belly again and she gives me another weird sounding moo.

"Is your baby bothering you?" I ask her again and she looks straight up at me. It looks almost as if she's trying to tell me something and just by the gut feeling in my stomach it's enough for me to want to call the vet.

So I don't milk her, not wanting to irritate her more , and give her extra fresh hay, and grass mixture and let her be until I can get a better out here. After a quick shower, and a change of clothes I'm in my truck on the way to work. I pat myself on the back also remembering Scarlett's clothes that were done washing.

Somehow I make it inside with my tote bag full of no lunch and non-graded tests before the first bell only to be stopped by Jaime in the hallway between our classes. "Hey! Sorry I didn't stop by this weekend. After the fair I was exhausted, and then Sunday Miguel stopped by." Jaime rambles but she narrows her eyes at my smirk.

"Miguel huh? You like him that much to have him come by a second time?" I tease Jaime seeing a thin pinkish-hue come across her face.

"Oh shut up you." she points her finger at me. "I cant just like his huge co-" Before she can finish her sentence that bell rings, just on time. Thank God.

"Talk more later alright?" I say to her and she nods in agreement and backs away into her class. I finally get into my classroom and all but put my bag down and sit into my chair by my desk before the kids start running in.

"No running! Dante, slow down! Ashley, please close the door behind you. Matt, dude, chairs are for your butts not your feet, get down!" I ramble off a few commands before everyone finally settles down into their seats and awaits instructions.

It could be challenging, teaching this age group of kids but once you show them your not all business and can have fun, or negotiate fun, it becomes a little easier. It took a while to get the kids to understand that I'm the boss, they were used to doing whatever they wanted since they have been learning remotely two years ago and the transitioning them back has been tough.

"Today, we're going to start with working more on our Book assignments. You should have already researched which author you want to write about, and the book you want to re-create. Remember, a drawing of the cover of the book will not count as re-creating it." I yell out to them and hear groans.

"Ms. M, We can dress up like them right?" Rosa asks.

"Yes! Costumes, or acting out a scene, even building or re-creating a novelty from the book." I explain.
