I still recall the days my mom told me stories and used to play tea parties with me. Those days are sadly over, but this dream keeps making me feel nostalgic. People in this town are dressed like royalty and the way they greet each other give my ancient vibes.
“What is this place?” I ask, even though the answer might scare me.
“Told you. The land of the dreaming. The place where time doesn't matter. Where people experience their biggest desire. This, my dear, is where you will be from now on. No matter what you do, you are destined to save our place. If you leave it, you will always be back no matter what. Don’t try to ignore sleep, it will haunt you forever. That need to come back will consume you, it might also put your physical body into a coma. First, we need to find the anchor.” she responded, smiling and looking at me.
“My anchor?” I ask slowly. What is that supposed to mean?
“Yes. The anchor that holds your subconscious in this place.” she says, walking to a place I have never seen before. I follow her slowly, scared of what might happen.
“Well, let’s find it and get rid of it.” I say hopeful, ready to wake up. This place really scares me like hell, and I really wish I wasn’t alone.
“Oh, no, no, my dear Katherine. It’s not this way. The anchor is a person. I also have one. And I was as scared as you are. But I faced my punishment, for trying to escape. I was scared of love.” She says with a soft voice.
“A person you say?” I try to understand what she just said.
“Exactly. And for girls, they’re usually boys. I have to warn you, they tend to be… very jealous and dominant.” Lauren ads.
“That person doesn’t even know me. How could he be dominant? I don’t get it. Seriously, stop this. You scare me. I have to wake up.” I say, still hoping someone will wake me up.
“Sweetheart. The anchor chooses its place to land. So, the boy who chose you, finds you perfect for him. You cannot escape.” She says, then speaks again. “And you are lucky I came after you. I know for a fact the boy who chose you. He is a friend of mine, well, when my anchor isn’t around. But the two of them are close too. So, no hard feelings. Come, I’ll introduce you to everyone.” She says, entering a house. I wanted to stop her, to tell it’s wrong to barge into someone’s home, but then I remembered, it might be her’s.
“James, I”m home! Come down a little bit.” She screamed as she entered the house.
“Coming, honey!” a response came from a man, not very tall, blonde haired and dressed like a lawyer. “Well, who are you?” he asked when our eyes met.
“Katherine Ash. New here. I’m pretty sure she’s Theo’s anchor. She has to be.” Lauren and James keep talking about some guy named Theo, but I have never heard of him before.
“Well, Katie, let’s eat, shall we?” James asks. “Honey, don’t be jealous, I'm just being nice to our new friend. “ he says, this time to Lauren, giving her a peck on the lips. Lauren puts on a grumpy face, and rolls her eyes.
“You know I’m not gonna be jealous. I’m not you.” She says. I put on a smile as the two bicker over something not every couple does.
James puts the food on the table and he starts to eat.
“Wait, I thought this was a dream, how come you guys are eating?” I ask, genuinely concerned.
“Theoretically, it’s a real world. Plus, no one wants to starve to death, right?” he says, still eating. I join them, only to realize, it is real. But how? Is this some sort of joke?
“By the way, I called you anchor, Katie. He’ll be here very soon. He can’t really wait long to see you. He gets excited easily.” Lauren says.
“Why? I don’t want to meet him! I just want to go home to my family. Please, I don’t wanna be here.” I say, tears forming in my eyes. I grabbed my raven hair, and hoped to wake up sooner or later, before I fell for some random dream dude.
Then, the front door opened and someone stepped inside. I didn’t try to look up, I was facing the floor. Then I heard voices, they were calm voices. A hand touched my shoulder, then lifted my head up.
“You must be Katherine. Hello, dear. I am Theo Reyes, your anchor.” His voice ringed my ears, and I finally met the dude that ruined my life forever.
