We sat across from each other, sipping from our soda, and in his case, beer. He just stares at me, like he knew who I was. Like he knew the reason I was there. Maybe he did.
“So, you had a rough day, right?” he says, locking his eyes to mine. Only then I realize the watercolor eyes, so beautiful I've never seen before. They were an amazing sea blue, and they reminded me of someone. But I got rid of those thoughts, I tried to focus on the man that was standing in front of me.
“Kind of. I won't call it a day, though. It's technically night, look out the windows. This place is like a nightmare.” I say, looking him in the eyes again.
“But you met a bunch of new people here. Aren't you relieved to be finally free of those days where you have to mourn your mother, go to school, blah blah blah!” he says, chill. He doesn't seem to care. He looks heart broken.
“I am going to not respond to that. But what's wrong? You seem-”
“Heartbroken. Lonely. Yeah, I know. Don't need to remind me. ” I could feel his eyes water. But I decided to keep this discussion going on.
“It'll help if you talk to someone. I'm listening to you.” He looked me in the eyes and took a while, then talked again.
“I was rejected by my girl. She just told me, after almost a year, that she never felt anything for me. Everything was just an act so that I won't go crazy. Could you believe it?!” The pain in his voice was obvious. He was suffering. I wanted to ask her name, but I figured I was going to make things even worse. I decided to say nothing more. The music was loud, blasting through the speakers, and people were happily chatting in the bar. We talked about something else, a subject I have no idea how we reached. We were laughing and having a great time.
The doors opened wide and a boy entered the bar. He started to wander around, searching for someone. But I didn't pay much attention. I was chatting with Jack about some hobbies we both have interest in.
“Jack, my dear friend. Touch my girl and you might visit Antonio Doom behind those huge doors. Are we clear?” It was Theo. Of course it was him.
“What do you want? Go mind your own business.” I look him in the eyes, then roll them dramatically.
“So you'd rather spend your time with… him?” he says, but he keeps talking. “Well, okay. As long as you stay here, I'll be happy. But I'll be happier if you spend more time with me. I'm your anchor. Not Jack.”
The conversation was getting awkward so I decided to speak.
“You claim he's your friend. Well let me tell you something. Friends should be there for each other. Did you know he's suffering? That he needs his best friend by his side? And as I'm seeing, you're his best friend. So if you want to win me over, then let me wander around here, and talk to him. Not me. I'll survive. I always do. Understood?” I say, quite loud. He looks at me, then I decide to leave. As I stand in front of him, he pecks my lips, soft and quick, but I pay no attention. I'm happy I'm doing a good job.

I walk around town, in hope to discover more. I stop at a bookshop, but don't stay much. I did buy some novels I really wanted, though. People around here seem to hate these shops. A small number of people are inside. But it seems nice. If I'll be stuck here for a very long time at least I should entertain myself. I searched for Lauren, to ask her where I would live. But I couldn't find her. Instead, I cross paths with Theo and Jack.
“I see you bought some stuff. Let's take them home, shall we?” Theo says, trying to grab my shopping bags. I don't let them go, replaying.
“Yeah, well. I don't live anywhere.”
“Yes, you do. My house. It's ours now. Let's go.” he says. I hesitate, but considering the fact that I have nowhere to go, I would rather stay in his house than on the streets. So I followed him to his house. Just the two of us. Nothing could go wrong.
