Beginning to understand humanity

Humanity. What is humanity and what does it entitle? People speak about being human, a majority of the time not knowing what it means, and constantly compare humans to "inferior" species. However, even if a species is not as smart as a human that does not mean that it is inferior to us. Some, a lot actually, of species are better than humans in other ways other than intelligence, such as hunting or by certain adaptations that they have that humans do not possess(such as the ability to live in certain conditions).

What exactly does it mean to be human? Well according to the dictionary it is simply a scientific separation of us to other non-Homo sapiens and that we are apparently smarter, have a higher speech capability and can stand upright. However, in reality, the only one of those things that are for sure is that we are considered Homo sapiens but the other characteristics at least one other species shares one of the characteristics with us.

Just as an emu shares our upright standing dolphins share our excellence in smarts and advanced speech capabilities. We are sometimes not much better than animals any way. Us, humans, feel we are entitled because we are civilized, but we are not as civilized as we would like to believe.

A majority of the time we try our best to be civil but there are times that we revert back to a more primitive attitude. We kill for fun, we make excuses for the killing by saying that they deserved it for one reason or another. We harm each other in the name of religion and ethics thinking that ridding the world of the "lesser beings" that we are making the world better. Sometimes we even try to justify killing ourselves saying that the world would be better off without us simply because it is the way we feel. Justification for all kinds of things (racism, rape, murder, abuse of any kind, drugs and alcohol use, etc.) are just ways to try and justify us reverting. We don't even realize that it's what we are doing but it happens everyday. I can admit to using justification to excuse bad and more primitive behavior that I've committed. Now i haven't killed anyone but that doesn't mean i haven't done anything that I'm not exactly proud of either.

Everyone has something that they've done that qualifies them to have used the use of excuse for them simply being primitive. Or if you haven't then you will eventually, no matter how much you tell yourself otherwise. EVERYONE reverts for at least some time at least once in their lifetime. Reversion back to more primitive behavior is natural because it is ingrained in our blood from our ancestors and people need to realize that we are not as civilized as we want ourselves to believe. Once everyone can accept that reversion is a part of us, of humanity, and understands that the excuses we use to explain ourselves are just that, excuses, and plainly see ourselves for what we are then the world can be better. We are no more civilized than animals. We just like to believe it and try to prove it, failingly, and in doing so we like to say we are more civilized.

In reality we are but animals that can ACT civilized but we are NOT in fact ABSOLUTELY civil.

Understand this and you will have a better understanding of yourself and of humanity.

If humanity understood this then the world would be much different, maybe not in behavior but in mindset certainly. Mindset of the knowing and understanding is better than that of the blissfully ignorant. Even if it may feel worse it is definitely more mentally satisfying.

HUMANS ARE ANIMALS. THERE IS NO CHANGING THAT.  UNDERSTAND THAT AND YOU ARE ONE STEP CLOSER TO UNDERSTANDING HUMANITY.
