The Dimensional Guard

Chapter 6

As per protocol, all of us have our essential gear and are seated ready for briefing five minutes later. It had not always been like this, but CASSIE made sure that we learned and followed SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) to the letter no matter what. We've all tried at one point or another to convince her that showing up in normal clothes won't hurt as we always have time after the brief, but she won't hear it. Guess one of the drawbacks of having a computer give us our missions. 

Sitting down, I try to make sense of the scene on the screen before me. 

"What is that?" Mikey asks

"Fun park." Tessa says "It's a place where people go to ride on things that make you want to throw up and eat overpriced fried food."

"Why would you do that?" Mikey asks. 

"You haven't been to one." I say "So no judging till we can go to one that isn't being attacked. They are also called amusement parks. Though this one doesn't look like anyone will be having fun there for a while."

"What are we dealing with CASSIE?" Sara asks

"We have another group of zombies where they shouldn't be." CASSIE says "This planet unlike the last one is very prone to outbreaks. Mission: Capture and contain. You must not let this virus get out as it will tear this world apart. Touchdown is in ten."

"Any restrictions?" Sara asks

"No" CASSIE says "Contain the affected by any means necessary. Just don't let anyone else be bitten and turned. No mercy for anyone who has. There is no cure and if we let it spread, this world will be comprised completely of the undead in a matter of months." 

"Big guns it is." Kyle grins

"Are there any civilians around?" I ask "Do we need to be worried about them?"

"At the moment the zombies are contained in the park and nearby city." CASSIE says "Everyone who was there has either been affected or moved to a safe location. You need to make sure that it doesn't get anywhere else."

"Oki." I say "So we're good to shoot anything that is undead and moves."

"We still need to be sure that we watch for anyone who might have been left behind and need help." Sara says "And these people are still going to need to live here afterwards, so try to leave the place with as few bullet holes as possible." 

"Copy that." Kyle says  

"So what's our game plan?" Sara asks, turning to Michael. 

"James, you're going to be in charge of putting up a barrier around the city. That way we'll have a better chance of making sure that nothing gets past us and it will make the clean up easier. Take Tessa with you and after you are done with the city, put up a barrier around the park" Michael says, switching into tactical mode. "The rest of us will pair up and start herding the zombies who've migrated out into the city back to the park. It seems like the best place to keep them all. Sara, you and I will take the south. Kyle and Bex, you take the north."

"Done" I nod.

"Landing in fifteen." CASSIE informs us. 

"Here" Kyle says, reaching into his bunker and pulling out Michael's favorite machine gun. "Message me if you need anything else and I'll toss it through one of your portals. Does anyone else need anything?" 

"I could use another few mags." I say. 

Once everyone is settled and fully stocked up on weapons and gear, we take another go at the docket of information. CASSIE lets us know when we're about five minutes from landing.
