Chapter 9 - Then you met Dominic

Gabriela Senna's POV:

"Okay Carlos then I will tell you about Matt as well in case we encounter him."

"Another past relationship?"

"Yeah, but it was more like a friendship to me. And that was the problem."

"What do you mean?" he asked.

"So, let me take you back in time to 2012, my first day at college. I met Matt, let's call him the 'nice guy rebound guy'. We were classmates, then friends, best friends, and eventually, lovers. I know he loved me deeply, but I didn't fully consider it when I said yes to a relationship with Matt. By the end of our second year, it was our first anniversary (since Matt asked me out on the last day of our freshman year). I took him to Portugal and then Brazil for him to meet my grandparents – they love meeting all of my friends. Anyway, on that day, Matt got down on one knee and asked me to marry him in the school garden, with everyone cheering and a small band he'd arranged. But I was freaked out. I ran through the garden, not even realizing I'd reached home until I started crying, my eyes red and swollen. I tossed my bag somewhere, and didn't even hear the phone ringing – Lily had called me like a hundred times. She eventually came over and I spilled everything to her. I loved Matt, but I also enjoyed our time together as friends. That summer, we had a 'hot girl summer', spending a month in Miami, then our usual trip to Brazil to visit my grandparents. Later, we visited Lily's parents' house in Scotland before returning to London for school. At Lily's parents' gated community, we attended a goodbye summer party where I met Dominic Ruffer."

"Wait a minute, Matt wanted to marry you when you were both 19?"

"Yeah, he was out of his mind. What was he thinking?"

"Clearly not logical thinking."

"Yeah."

"Then you met Dominic."

"Oh, yes. Dom."

Flashback to the August of 2014

The air was thick with the scent of blooming flowers as Gabriela found herself standing in the elegant foyer of Lily's parents' Scottish estate. It was a picturesque scene, one that seemed straight out of a fairy tale with sprawling greenery and a grandiose mansion in the background.

As the last days of August 2014 unfolded, a lively BBQ party took shape at Dominic's family estate, drawing friends and acquaintances alike. Among the attendees were Lily and Gab, the atmosphere buzzing with laughter and the aroma of grilled delicacies.

Amidst the festivities, Gab found herself navigating the labyrinthine corridors of the grand estate, in search of an elusive bathroom. Lost in the expansive halls, she stumbled upon an open door where a man stood, engrossed in a phone conversation.

"Hi, I was looking for the bathroom but I couldn't remember if it was on the right or left side and didn't want to enter any rooms and was looking for someone and saw this door open but you were on the phone. However, don't worry I didn't hear anything. Omg I'm over-explaining again, Aren't I?" Dom started laughing.

"Yes, you are," he chuckled, "but don't worry. I'll show you to the bathroom." With a casual gesture, he led her down the hallway.

"Thank you," Gab said gratefully.

"I'm next door in my study room, in case you need help getting back to the garden," he added before disappearing into his study.

"Thanks again," Gab called after him.

Emerging from the bathroom, Gab decided to seize the moment and properly introduce herself to Dominic.

"Hello, I just wanted to properly meet you. I don't want you to remember me as the girl who got lost in your house while just trying to go to the bathroom."
